Great Uses of Songs in TV Shows: “Forever” by Chris Brown in The Office

Whether you like him or hate him Chris Brown’s song Forever being used in the episode where Jim and Pam get married is pretty funny. The cast of The Office have always been pretty tight no matter how they appear on the show. In this episode the amount of solidarity is pretty cool since Pam and Jim have been a desired item for so long that their coming together at last was something a lot of fans were just dying to see. But of course in true fashion the cast had to get together and create a spectacle that would be remembered for some time to come.

Walking down the aisle during a wedding is typically something done in a slow, measured fashion, a handing off of a bride to her awaiting husband by the father of the bride or whoever is standing in place to offer her hand in marriage. For many weddings this sacred ritual is something that is expected and is observed in as common a fashion as possible. The ushers will ferry family members and honored guests to their seats, then the flower girl and the ring bearer will make their way down, or the bridesmaids and groomsmen will come first and then the ring bearer and the flower girl will make their way down. That’s not how the cast of The Office was bound to do things however. When it comes to their antics you had to know that something was going to happen during Jim and Pam’s wedding that would be memorable in some way. But how it went was kind of amusing as well as cringe-worthy. After all it’s not every wedding in which you see a guy go crashing through the decorations because he loses his balance. Nor do you ever really see a woman get kicked in the face because the guy in front of her gets a little carried away with his dance routine.

But throughout it all you could see Jim and Pam smiling and realizing that this was the way in which their coworkers had decided to send their best and give them something that was fitting for all the time they’d spent in their company. That’s the great thing about working with a group of individuals for so long, eventually you transcend the average relationship between coworkers and, even if you don’t become friends, you earn the respect of those you work with in a way that goes beyond a simple office relationship. You get to know people after a while even if you don’t happen to like them, and as result you get to earn their trust, their regard, and in some cases their respect. It’s the hope of those that work together for long enough that they can depend on those that they’re around so often, but this kind of goes beyond that. This is something that Pam and Jim were kind of hoping wouldn’t happen, but are able to roll with once it does.
