With only two episodes left in the first season of Grace and Frankie, it looks like the time is finally here for Robert and Sol’s wedding preparations. The event gets into gear with “The Bachelor Party.”
The episode opens with Frankie in the middle of her process for getting completely over Sol. She chooses this moment to finally take her wedding ring off of her finger for good, and things appear to be going well for her. Unfortunately, she gets a phone call from Bud, who lets her know that the grooms’ bachelor party is coming up. As Frankie reflects on this news, Bud and Coyote go to Brianna and Mallory to help them plan the party. It turns out that neither of the boys know what to do for their father and soon-to-be stepfather, so they leave it up to Mallory to make most of the plans.
Grace tries to cheer up Frankie by spending time with her, and they decide to have a “Say Yes” night, or a night in which they only say yes to everything that’s asked. Meanwhile, the first guest to arrive at the party is Nelson, a former mentor of Robert’s that never liked Sol. The older men agree that things are fine between them, and Mallory leaves Bud and Coyote alone without her, much to the brothers’ dismay.
That night, Frankie and Grace prepare to leave, and Grace bolsters her friend’s confidence by dressing her, to which she has to say yes. Unfortunately, Frankie also wants to dress Grace, so the women head out to a bar dressed as parodies of each other. When they get to the bar, though, they are shocked to see that it’s now a hip young club. Back at the party, none of Robert and Sol’s friends are having fun, as everything is much too classy. Sol is also having a terrible time because of Nelson, and Coyote calls in Brianna as a reinforcement. Frankie is also having a horrible time with her night until couple of older men (one of which is played by Creed Bratton!) buy the women drinks.
Brianna shows up to the party and surprises Coyote with a penis-shaped mechanical bull. Sol and Robert are horrified when they see it, though, and it leads to a pretty amusing scene with a very drunk Bud. The party is saved, but not before a confrontation between Robert and Nelson after a heated exchange. Grace and Frankie also end up with a successful evening, and the two end up getting even closer than they were before.
All of the relationships on the show have become incredibly well-established, and I’m so very excited to see how things end up in the season finale. I don’t know if I would call Grace and Frankie one of the best originals in Netflix’s arsenal, but it has definitely matured into a solid performer that is deserving of its position.
