Glenn Howerton is a very successful actor, best known for his recurring role in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, as well as in A.P. Bio. Most people that watch him in front of a camera know that he’s a talented actor, but they may not know very much about his personal life or just how involved he really gets in his career. Below are 10 things that you might not already know, things that can help you better understand how he’s managed to develop such a passion for creativity over the years.
1. He’s also a screenwriter and producer
For many actors, it’s enough to merely star in a television show or movie but for others, it just doesn’t get the job done. People that really want to express their creativity often do so in a variety of different ways. For actors, that usually comes across as producing the show or even directing a few episodes. Some people prefer screenwriting and others like to do a combination of all of these so that they get to be involved in a little bit of everything. This is the case with Howerton, as he doesn’t just act in front of the camera. He also writes a number of episodes and produces them as well.
2. He was born in Japan
Although Howerton is an American citizen, he was actually born in Japan because his dad was in the military. At the time of his birth, they were stationed at an air base there, and left shortly thereafter. When they moved from the base in Japan, their first destination was Arizona, quickly followed by New Mexico and other areas.
3. He moved around a lot as a kid
For anyone that knows anything about the military, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. People that are involved in the military move around a lot, typically getting orders to change to a new location every couple of years, sometimes even more often. Therefore, it only makes sense that when he was a child, he and his family moved around a great deal. In fact, he moved around so much that it made it exceedingly difficult make any lasting friendships. As soon as he would get to know someone, it was time to pack up and move once again.
4. His early life influenced his creativity
Much of his creativity was actually driven out of necessity. As a young child that didn’t have the opportunity to develop any lasting bonds with other people his age, he had to find a way to cope. He did this by developing an excellent imagination. Even if he didn’t always have the stable lifestyle that he wanted in real life, he could imagine having that and make it seem almost real. He quickly learned that if he worked at it hard enough, he could create virtually any life he wanted for himself, even if he had to do so in his own imagination.
5. His dad was a fighter pilot
You already know that he comes from a military family that moved around a lot. His dad was a fighter pilot, something that requires a great deal of focus and effort in order to succeed in. This type of work ethic was passed on to Howerton from a young age. He learned how to be responsible, how to work hard, and how to hold himself accountable for both his successes and his failures. This is a work ethic that continues to benefit him even today.
6. He’s spent a great deal of time abroad
Once again, this comes back to all the moving around he did as a kid. Not only did he see several different states within the U.S., he also spent time in England and South Korea. As such, he’s developed a rather unique perspective when it comes to the way he sees the world as a whole.
7. He has two kids
He and his wife were married back in 2009. Today, they have two children together and they’ve managed to somehow avoid the Hollywood curse where almost no-one manages to stay married for more than a year or two.
8. He graduated from Juilliard
In 2000, he graduated from the prestigious Juilliard School with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. This in and of itself is an achievement that few people ever even come close to seeing.
9. He also does voice-over work
He loves to perform, and as such he’s frequently involved in voice-over roles. One of the most most notable roles he’s ever done was for The Cleveland Show.
10. He gives 100 percent to everything he works on
He wasn’t brought up to do anything halfway, so he always make sure that he gives whatever he’s doing everything he’s got, no matter what it is. Obviously, this is a lifestyle that has paid off.
