I’m sure most of you remember the show LOST. A fantastic show that only had one weakness: production value. While a show like LOST was nearly flawless in its writing and did a very nice job with the acting, didn’t those scenes with things like the smoke monster always piss you off? They were annoying because they looked so darned fake. It was like something off of the sci-fi channel’s cheesy shark and other huge animals killing people movies. Back then the production value of TV shows just didn’t lend itself to movie-like effects.
I bring this up because we’ve come a very very long way. One show in particular that would have been awful around 15-20 years ago, is considered by many to be one of the best shows on television and even ever made. Game of Thrones has taken a show like LOST up a notch by giving it the effects and realism it deserves. Game of Thrones features the great story, writing, acting, but also dragons and other “beings” that look incredibly real. This is because of the tremendous effects.
