If you are a TV watcher, then you would literally have had to be living underneath a rock to not have experienced the craze that has built behind the show Empire. There are some who hate it for what they believe to be false narratives and poor representation of the Black collective, and there are others who absolutely love it. There is one thing for certain, the show is not going anywhere. Trai Byers plays Andre Lyons, the oldest son of Luscious and Cookie Lyons.
Over the course of the first three seasons, Trai’s character has definitely had his share of ups and downs, but at the end of the day, he has found his place. Despite the massive popularity of the show, and the increasing popularity of its individual cast members, including Trai, there are still many things that fans don’t know about it, so let’s dig in.
1. Trai Took the Academic Route
There are many ways that people have broken into acting. Some are born into it, while others were at the right place at the right time. One of the more tedious approaches in the more direct and intentional approach of becoming formally trained to be on stage and in front of a camera. This is the route that Trai took. He has multiple degrees and certificates in the art of acting, with an Associate degree in the discipline of theater, a Bachelor’s degree in the field of communication and a Master’s degree in the art of acting.
2. He Is A Devout Christian
One thing that most people who have seen the show would not do is associated anyone on it with being a devout Christian. This can be considered a good thing. When people identify with the characters so strongly that they forget they are actors playing roles and not real people, it means that everyone has done their job. With that being said, Trai confesses that he is a devout, practicing Christian.
3. He Can Sing
It is not unheard of for people in theater to be multi-talented, and this definitely applies to Trai. He says that he can sing, which is somewhat surprising with this being a show in which remarkable talent is being displayed on a weekly basis. Well, maybe Lee Daniels is saving the unveiling of Trai’s vocal talent for next season.
4. He Is A Huge Fan of Denzel Washington
Okay, who is not a fan of Denzel Washington, but coming from an up and coming actor, that has more meaning than it might have from a fan. A fan simply gets to be a fan, admiring the work of a particular person, but when you are a fan of a person who has mastered the craft you employ to make a living, you have to study them, model them and mirror them. Trai, says that he has seen every film ever made by Denzel.
5. He Hates “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson
He doesn’t want to send the wrong idea. He absolute admires Michael Jackson, and he says the lyrics to the song are inspirational and powerful. The problem is not with the artist or the song, but with the fact that his father used to play the song 12 hours non-stop when they would go on car trips. Yep, that would definitely do it.
