The reality television series “Counting On” is a continuation of the eldest Duggar kids who have become adults. The show follows them as they move on with their lives and it has become as popular as its parent program “19 Kids and Counting.” Everyone is hoping that the Duggar siblings are successful as they embark on their new lives. For those of you who want more information before the start of the new season, here are five things that you didn’t know about the show.
1. The Duggars appeared in a film together
While reality television seems to be their forte, the family made an appearance in a short film. “Courageous” was a short that was shot in 2011. It is an Independent Christian drama featuring members of the Sherwood Baptist Church as cast and crew. Appearing as extras in the film were Jim Bob Dugger along with seven of his sons. Joy-Anna along with her sisters appeared as extras in a different scene.
2. Another marriage will take place in the family soon
Joy-Anna was the most recent child to tie the knot, but another wedding is in the making. Her brother Joe has poroposed to Kendra Caldwell, his girlfriend. This event happened while the family was celebrating Joy-Anna’s nuptuals.
3. Their home is a partial donation
The lovely home that the Duggar’s share was based upon donations. Jim Bob bought the land for the massive project. He also purchased the frame with his own funding, but the project was successful because of the help that the family received from outside sources. Discovery Networks is the benefactor that helped to make their dream home a reality. They assisted by locating suppliers and builders in the locale who were willing to donate their supplies, materials and services. In addition, the Network also helped to stock the home and furnish it.
4. Men in the Duggar family observe strict rules
While many of us don’t think twice about going to the local swimming pool or spending a sunny day on the beach, this is frowned upon in the Duggar family. Human nature being what it is, they have decided that it is best to avoid public swimming places where women may be dressed in skimpy bathing attire. This is how they do their part to help the men avoid lusting after women.
5. Dating can be expensive for the Duggars
The Duggar children are allowed to date under the supervision of a chaperone. Since there are only two parents, and they have their hands full, some of the siblings step in and do the job. The savvy kids charge their siblings who want to go out on a date $5 per hour for their services. This is a win-win situation as it solves the problem of finding a suitable chaperone, and most siblings aren’t paid for the task. We’re not sure if the chaperones are required to pay for their food when the dating couples go out for dinner, but it’s a good idea that helps to offset the boredom.
