You probably know by now that I have a curtained weighted take on reality television. While there have definitely been some entertaining and engaging shows, much of reality television is simply designed to tug on the emotional heartstrings of the viewers – bringing no depth to the table. In this case, depth is something relevant that can be taken away from the show beyond emotional stimulation. Well, “Restored by the Fords’ definitely has a sense of relevance while inviting you into the lives of siblings Leanne and Steve Ford and the restore fixer upper homes. For those of you who have not had the opportunity to check out the show, he is five quick facts to give some insight the HGTV series.
1. Before Taking on this Project, Leanne Was a Fashion Designer
When you watch the series, you will notice that when Leanne is not working on restoring a property, her sense of style has range. That is because she holds a sense of pride in her fashion presence. From the time she was a little girl, she was constantly rearranging the furniture in her room, exploring new looks, and as an adult, the interest in home fashion and clothing fashion has remained intense. Even her first home was a restoration project.
2. Steven is a General Contractors
I almost feel bad calling Steve and general contractors, because the term general can easily be misinterpreted as meaning average. I use the term general because Steve is a living, walking, talking, one-stop restoration machine. Have you ever met that person who can fix or build anything your home needs? I grew up with that person in the house. I thought it was normal until I got older and realize my father was a dying breed. Steve Ford is of that breed.
3. The Siblings Each Operate Their Owns Businesses
While it obvious after watching the show that these two siblings work well together, they also have businesses that the run outside of the collaborations they do together. Leanne commutes back and forth from Sewickley to Los Angeles to run her interior design business and in addition to being a contractor, Steve also owns and runs two clothing stores, Decade and Surf Pittsburg. Still, the two both admit that they believe the best work that they do are the projects they do together.
4. The Show Has Been a Long Time in the Making
While it seems that the ideas for many reality shows just pop into the heads of some producer after having one too many drinks or blunts, the truth is that many of them are ideas that have been sitting on the back burner or lacking funding for years. According to Leanne, she and Steven had been in talks with High Noon, a production company, for some time before the show was actually picked up by HGTV.
5. They Both Love the Process
Leanne admits that she did not know all of the work that goes into producing and filming a television series. She says that it is a lot of work, but she absolutely enjoys the process. Steve also likes the production process. I think their love for the production side of things is hidden in their passion to explore new ideas. They literally have no boundaries that govern what they are willing to reach for.
