(Sigh). From the looks of this show one might assume that alien abduction stories are starting to make a comeback. Then you get to watching and you think a little differently. It is about alien abduction and the search for the truth after all, but it’s also about taking the stories of the abducted at face value while still trying to sort out whether or not they are real or if they are just crackpots with a severe need for attention and community. That might be a reasonable explanation if it hadn’t been discovered that the aliens are in fact real. Strange enough, aside from the abduction memories the first time it’s discovered they’re real is when Gina hits and kills Kurt when she’s texting while driving.
Despite how all of this sounds so far, eventually it gets REALLY weird.
5. There are actual support groups for alien abductions and sightings.
Go ahead and laugh, but there are in fact groups that gather together and discuss how they were taken by aliens into their spaceship and experimented on in various different ways. No offense to anyone that might have been through it, but if a gray-skinned alien with eyes the size of saucers stuck a probe up my rear I don’t think I’d be so keen to talk about it.
4. Grey aliens are the most documented extraterrestrial on record.
Well over forty percent of all alien sightings that have been reported are about grey aliens. It’s a very common thread between abductions and sightings. They appear to be roughly the same with each sighting, with the only real difference being the overall perception of the person making the discovery. Ever notice how in so many alien films they’re some variation of gray, black, or green, and they’re essentially naked? People of Earth puts clothes on their aliens, but the overall effect is still roughly the same.
3. Alien abductees tend to struggle with the knowledge of what has happened.
In the show the comedic aspects are quite engaging and even help break up the more serious aspects, but they are not quite as real. In reality alien abductees tend to exist on the very fringes of human existence. What this means is that they are not always what is defined as “normal” or even well-adjusted. They can have severe emotional issues and behave rather erratically at times. While the show touches on some of this it really doesn’t go into a lot of the negative issues that some people experience.
2. The white aliens are a part of Nordic culture.
Despite seeming so enigmatic and quite elegant, the whites are considered to be a subspecies of the greys. They were reportedly subjected to many different tests that eventually gave them the appearance they’ve become so well known for along with several other abilities.
1. Acidic blood is not a new thing.
It might not be as prominent on TV, but the whole “acid for blood” thing was picked up far earlier by the Alien franchise and used to a much greater degree. It’s inventive and not at all taboo to use this type of physical attribute, but fans should already know that it’s been done.
So far the show seems to be a hit, and people have responded to it fairly well. Time will tell if it turns out to be one of the next memorable sitcoms.
