MIPCOM has gone live promoting its annual conference and the entire communications world is a little giddy. MIPCOM is an acronym for Marche International des Programmesde Communication in French or International Market of Communication Programs in English. MIPCOM is a trade show that is held annually in the French city of Cannes, normally during the month of October. Over a four-day period, the trade show/conference is heavily geared towards the television industry and it is attended my influencers and decision makers from all the major television studios and broadcasters around the globe. Over the last 32 years, MIPCOM has become a powerhouse known for its innovative focus on advancing the industry.

1. The Trade Show Even Has a Children’s Version

Prior to MIPCOM kicking off every year, the hold a children’s conference known as MIPCOM Junior which is created and held by the same organizers that own and run MIPCOM, using a similar format that focuses on children’s programming. A great deal of the focus is introducing, buying and selling new programming formats for international distribution. It is not uncommon for companies to use celebrities to help promote and sell programming at the event.

2. There Is a Sister Event Called MIPTV

With Cannes being famous for its annual film festival, the town has the capacity to facilitate events like MIPCOM and MIPTV. Functioning much in the same format as MIPCOM, MIPTV is not as well-attended as the fall version, but it still attracts a lot of attention. MIPTV is literally 30 years older than MIPCOM, originating in a time with TV formatting was simple yet dominate. The MIPCOM version of the event introduces the rapid advancement of technology into the equation.

3. The Cyborg of Film Festivals

Those who are familiar with the film industry understand how film festivals work to help get new material in front of the right people. There have been multitudinous films that became blockbusters after faring well as independent films showcased at a film festival.
