She is one of those special entertainers who makes significant contributions to the industry from behind the scenes. Here are five things that most people don’t know about her.
She pulled an episode of her weekly podcast.
Jen produces “I Seem Fun: The Diary of Jen Kirkman” and appears weekly with new comedy materials. She did feel the need to remove one of the segments because it caused a stir with fellow comedian C.K. with whom she had spent some time touring on a comedy circuit. She discussed a previous situation which made her feel uncomfortable with him. She had stated that, “This guy didn’t rape me, but he made a certain difficult decision to go on tour with him really hard.” She felt that he treated her in a “weird” manner and only said that it was someone she toured with. It was just assumed that she was referring to C.K. She shared that the whole thing got blown out of proportion and there were no inappropriate gestures on his part. To cool the situation, she removed the podcast.
Jen has album releases
Jen has worked with AST Records for the release of her comedy albums. The first is titled Self Help.” The second release is “Hail to the Freaks” which is alive recording of her performance at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in December of 2010. She was influenced by George Carlin and Sam Kinison at age 8
Jen Kirkman developed a passion for comedy early in her life. She shared that she would sneak around to watch George Carlin and Sam Kinison perform on HBO comedy specials at a friend’s house. She wouldn’t have been allowed to watch these adult themed comedians at home, so she improvised. I addition to Kinison and Carlin, other influences on her own comedy include Howard Stern, Joan Rivers, Morrissey and Roseanne Barr.
She got drunk so she could appear on a show
While this may sound a bit odd, the only way that celebrities can participate in this show, is if they are blitzed. The series is “Drunk History.” In fact, it appears that between 2013 and 2016, she became intoxicated on four separate occasions, so she could properly narrate the segments. The show is about real history events and celebrities who serve as narrators must re-tell the tales when they are drunk on their lips.
She’s an accomplished writer
Jen Kirkman wears many hats. In addition to being a comedian and actress, she is also a producer and writer. She earned her degree at Emerson and has since written for several television series including “Chelsea Lately,” but she has also written a New York Times best seller titled “I Can Barely Take Care of Myself: Tales from a Happy Life Without Kids.” The book was published in April of 2013 and was her debut release.
