Like the name suggests, Impossible Builds is a new series on PBS that focuses on ambitious building projects, so much so that they verge on the impossible. In each episode, the series focuses on the construction methods as well as the construction materials that have made each building possible, which should prove interesting to those who are fascinated by the processes of how buildings are raised from their foundations. Here are five things that you may or may not have known about Impossible Builds:
Made By Blink Films
Impossible Builds is made by Blink Films, which is one of the companies based in London that specializes in making documentaries as well as a wide range of other projects. Besides Blink Films, it should be mentioned that the project saw the involvement of Discovery International as well as France Television, which is the public national broadcaster of France in much the same sense that BBC is the public national broadcaster of the United Kingdom.
From Start to Finish
If there is one word that can be said about Impossible Builds‘s coverage of the buildings featured on the series, that word is “thorough.” After all, the people behind the series were on the construction sites from start to finish, meaning that they were able to provide a thorough look at the construction methods as well as the construction materials used in the process.
Covers One Thousand Museum
One of the buildings covered on Impossible Builds is the One Thousand Museum, which is a residential condominium that is being built in Miami. It is interesting in that it features a curving exoskeleton, which enables it to stand in spite of the smaller number of columns situated within its interior. However, the exchange is that the One Thousand Museum had to have deep foundations, so much so that the depth of its foundations set a record for the whole Miami-Dade County.
Covers The Heart of Europe
Dubai has something of a reputation for ambitious building projects. One of the latest examples is The Heart of Europe, which is six islands situated close to Dubai plus the facilities on them that are intended to become a leading tourist destination. The European-themed tourist destination is expected to open in 2020, which is no more than a short time into the future.
Covers Floating Seahorse
Speaking of Dubai, it is interesting to note that Impossible Builds covers the Floating Seahorse as well, which is another example of the luxurious building projects that can be found in that part of the world. Like its name suggests, the Floating Seahorse is interesting in that it is supposed to be a residence situated both in and out of the water, which makes it a neat twist on a concept that tends to see more use in sci-fi than outside of it. With that said, there are recent reports that the Floating Seahorse project might have run into some rather serious issues, seeing as how it seems that not much progress has been made on the residences in spite of the time that has passed since the start.
