HGTV’s reality series “Desert Flippers” is so popular that it’s back for another season. Eric and Lindsey Bennett find dilapidated homes in the Palm Springs area to transform into dream homes. It’s a show about renovation, restoration and making a tidy profit on the results. Seeing the before and after shots of the houses that they pair work on is fun and interesting, but there is more to the show than we see in the weekly installments. Here are five things that you didn’t know about the show “Desert Flippers.”
Eric and Lindsey met in Wisconsin
The couple met while each of them was in the middle of a renovation project. They dated for just two months before investing in their first house flip together. Lindsey had been in Palm Springs on a vacation with her brother Mike as a child. She knew that there were some high-end properties in the area that cold fetch a handsome profit. She shared her thoughts with Eric and the couple took the money from the profits they earned on the project and moved to California. They built their renovation business and this is how they ended up as the stars of “Desert Flippers.”
Favorite spots of Eric and Lindsey in the valley
California was a radical change from Wisconsin. The culture, lifestyle and environment are not similar, but the couple has adapted nicely. As they decided to make this their new home, they’ve adopted some locales as their favorites. They enjoy visiting the Living Desert Zoo, the numerous local parks, eating Thai Smile, Native Foods and using the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. This hard-working duo are kept busy, but they do make time to enjoy their surroundings.
There are dangers in their jobs
Although the business is lucrative, there are drawbacks. Flipping houses in Palm Springs brings dangers that are not found in Wisconsin. The work must to on even when the temperatures outside reach three digits. This is when it’s time to drink a lot of water. There are also Black widow spiders to content with as well as scorpions, fire ants and rodents. Extra precautions are taken to lessen the chance of being bitten, stung or for coming into contact with disease causing rodent droppings in homes that are being renovated.
Eric brought impressive skills to the job
When living back in Wisconsin, Eric had already become a loan officer. He was experienced in the financing of real estate and in addition, he had developed a good understanding of the distressed property and foreclosure markets. He came from a line of successful real estate brokers, commercial real estate owners and developers in his home state. He was set for success when he made the move. Lindsey was familiar with high end real estate because she had learned the ins and outs from her cousins.
The business is a family affair
The Bennets have the perfect set up. Lindsey spends time in the business working with her family, and it still allows her to spend quality time at home with their three children. Eric works his magic in financing, flipping and capturing real estate on film. They’ve achieved a system that gives them a perfect balance of work and family life.
