The Eleven is a new true crime series that started up on A&E on October 19. It is centered around the murders of eleven teenage girls in the state of Texas, which were never solved but could have a connection to a convicted murderer named Edward Harold Bell who is expected to be attending a parole hearing in the not so distant future.
Here are five things that you may or may not have known about The Eleven:
Follows a Pair of Investigators
The Eleven is focused on the effort of a pair of investigators to solve what happened to eleven teenage girls who lived in Galveston County as well as its surrounding region. One of the two investigators is Lise Olsen, who is a journalist. Meanwhile, the other investigator is Fred Paige, who was a police detective who has since retired from his career of choice.
Started Because of a Confession Letter
The two investigators started looking into the unsolved murders because of a confession letter that was supposed to have been written by a convicted murderer named Edward Howard Bell. Said individual was convicted for shooting a marine named Larry Dickens when the marine had stepped in while he was exposing himself to a group of girls. However, when Bell was interviewed, he denied having murdered the eleven teenage girls even though his confession letter had included a great amount of gruesome detail.
Bell Is Going to Have a Parole Meeting
There is a sense of tension in The Eleven because Bell will be having his parole meeting soon, which will determine whether he can serve out the rest of his sentence as a parolee or not. As a result, the true crime series has a narrative in which Olsen and Paige have to show a connection between him and the unsolved murders, thus creating a sense of time pressure.
The Series Consists of Interviews and Dramatizations
Each episode of The Eleven attempts to establish a connection between Bell and the unsolved murders through a combination of material. First, there are cinematic dramatizations, which serve to provide viewers with a better idea of what happened in a more accessible manner than otherwise possible. Second, there are interviewers with a wide range of people, including but not limited to Bell, witnesses, and the family members of the deceased. A lot of this material is unprecedented, meaning that it has never been shown on the TV screen.
A Total of Six Parts
In total, The Eleven consists of six parts, which is befitting its nature as a limited series. Each part consists of an hour’s worth of material, which constitute an in-depth examination of the teenage girls as well as what the evidence suggests happened to them. The first two episodes were broadcast on A&E in a back-to-back manner on October 19, but for those who are interested, the remaining episodes will be broadcast in the same time-slot in subsequent weeks. That is to say, the remaining episodes will be broadcast at 9PM Eastern time and then 9PM Pacific Time as well.
