Five Things You Didn’t Know about Damien Chazelle

Damian Chazelle is an American screenwriter and director. At this time he doesn’t have much to look at on his resume but he’s managed to become one of the biggest names in Hollywood when it comes to being noticed. He has the type of vision and direction that many young people his age do but has found a way to express it so that millions of people can enjoy his work and his passion. Damian is actually one of the youngest directors in Hollywood as of right now but has already found a way to make his mark on the industry with one of his biggest hits, La La Land.

Here are a few other things you might not know about Damian Chazelle.

5. He’s an award-winning screenwriter.

It takes a lot to write a script that someone will look at in Hollywood and it takes even more to get them to use it. Damian has shown that he has the kind of talent that is necessary to make it in films and has continued to develop his craft with each new piece he writes. He’s also taken on directing with great aplomb and has done very well thus far.

4. He graduated from Harvard.

It helps to have a good, solid education behind you to get things going. Damian actually graduated from Harvard with a degree in Visual and Environmental Studies. It’s safe to say he didn’t exactly go the same direction as his studies, but that’s definitely been a good thing thus far.

3. His films tend to feature jazz musicians as the protagonist.

Every writer and every director has their niche that they like to stick to. This also means that they have roles for their characters that they like to adhere to as well. A lot of actors will simply adapt to the role given to them, but some directors will actually pick a person specifically for a role based upon their background and ability to roll with the character.

2. Youngest director to win the Best Director award at the Oscars.

At age 32 he became the youngest director in the history of Hollywood to win this award. The award was for the hit film La La Land.  If nothing else this definitely puts him in the history books and should be able to launch him into a career that could possibly see a lot of offers and chances to pick and choose his own projects in the future. Damian has done something that a lot of directors wait years and years to achieve.

1. His debut as a director came in 2009.

In 2009 he got his first shot at directing with the musical known as Guy and Madeline On A Park Bench. This was his first ever attempt at directing and it quickly led to his second attempt when he directed Whiplash. The full-length feature was actually based off the short film he’d done not that long ago.

Damian Chazelle is definitely a name we’ll be hearing for some time to come.
