One would think that being on the set of a movie that actors could find a way to get away from each other if things get heated, but that’s not always the case. Sometimes filming can get a little tense, tempers can flare, things tend to happen, and the next thing a person knows, fists are being thrown and people are at each other’s throats, sometimes literally. It’s not exactly professional, but it is a reminder that people are human and that they’re bound to get upset a time or two for various reasons. The fact that some of these arguments escalate to the point of violence however is a bit regrettable, though one has to think that when there are so many personalities and egos on the same set there’s bound to be conflict of some sort, especially when everyone thinks that their way is the right way or that they’re entitled to their opinion but all others should just stay quiet. It feels as though some sets are just bound to be tense if only because they’re harboring way too much pride and ego to contain in a single area. Some actors are able to walk it off and come to a better understanding when it comes to conflict resolution, but every now and then there are those that simply can’t let things be and need to throw hands.
Here are a few fights that broke out behind the scenes
5. Maidstone – Norman Mailer vs. Rip Torn
Some fights, like the one in the clip above, tend to get pretty nasty as the combatants don’t hold much of anything back. Norman Mailer and Rip Torn weren’t pulling anything as they were trying to choke one another out and an ear bite was even attempted. This is one of those fights that likely shouldn’t have happened, or been allowed to continue, especially when Mailer’s kids were in the background crying their eyes out. But perhaps the most erroneous part of this is the filming of it rather than the quick and efficient break it needed. But perhaps the two men simply needed to get this out of their system.
4. Lawless – Shia LaBeouf vs. Tom Hardy
When playing the roles of brothers one might expect some actors to get into the teasing and haranguing that comes naturally with siblings. But apparently LaBeouf didn’t fully appreciate this and took issue with Hardy. This might have been a very bad idea on Shia’s part as Hardy has trained as a fighter in the past and could have likely taken the Even Steven’s star down rather quickly, as Shia’s mouth has managed to get him in trouble more than once in the past. One has to remember that when actors fight it’s not always going to look like a slap fight, some of them have been training for some time and know how to handle themselves. Shia has since stated that it was not a fight, but it’s hard to say considering the source.
3. Charlie’s Angels – Billy Murray vs. Lucy Liu
Before anyone gets the wrong idea, Bill did not slap or go off on Lucy, and it might have been a bad idea on his part if he had since she too has been trained in how to fight. But upon making it known, in his opinion, that Lucy didn’t know how to act, Bill had to endure being slapped around a bit by Lucy as the two of them were separated at one point. It’s not much of a stretch to think why Bill didn’t come back for the second movie, though honestly he might have been thinking about his legendary career as well since the second movie wasn’t really that great, and as entertaining as she is, Lucy has been seen her career kind of rise and fall over the years.
2. The Outsiders – Rob Lowe vs. Tom Cruise
This is one of those moments when things do get out of hand and fight scenes become a little too real. It sounds as though Lowe struck Cruise a little too hard during one take, and Cruise took matters into his own hand by slugging his costar in the face, which started an actual fight. In a movie that’s about rough and tumble gang members that like to fight however it probably felt as though things could have popped off at any given second thanks to the level of testosterone that needed to be present and ready to go most times.
1. Any Given Sunday – Jamie Foxx vs. LL Cool J
This is another movie where male bravado came into play in a big way since a shoving match became a little too serious and punches were thrown soon after. From that point on LL Cool J, the guy that instigated the fight, and Foxx simply didn’t like each other and would feud for a while after the movie. Eventually this feud ended and they went on their separate ways, but it’s not hard to see how real fights can break out at any given time in certain movies.
Sometimes the act is a little too real.
