St. Louis is the biggest metropolitan area in all of Missouri and is the 19th biggest in the US. It’s also a city well known for its appearance in movies. The city is a very historical place located on the banks of the Mississippi and enjoys a long and culturally-rich past. So far as Hollywood is concerned this city is a mecca of hot spots in which they can ply their many different productions and entertain the masses as they pick one end of the city or the other to use for this film or that. St. Louis has been a hub for a lot of movies either for scenes showing people coming or going, with just as many it would seem taking place in the city as well as just passing through.
It’s definitely a cool location, and one where they love their culture.
5. National Lampoon’s Vacation
This particular scene wasn’t meant to be as overall depressing or prejudiced as it was, but it did provide a moment of hilarity in which Clark Griswold is asking for directions while the car’s being stripped behind the guys doing the talking. This shows you just how clueless Clark really is since he’s the kind of guy that’s more worried about not offending folks than he is about anything else.
4. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
St. Louis seems a great place to stay but a lot of movies seem to be just passing through. In this film and this scene Steve Martin is trying to get to Chicago. The F-bombing he did in the scene before would have been great but it didn’t show enough of the airport to really make it worthwhile. In this shot at least you can get a good look at the surroundings.
3. Trespass
A treasure hunt takes a dangerous turn when two firemen go searching for lost gold that was revealed to be hidden in an old factory. The retrieval might have gone just fine if not for the fact that Bill Paxton just had to step out and witness a murder. From that point on things get a bit hairy and by the end no one is really better off than when they started, except the last person you’d expect.
2. Up In The Air
This movie is about a guy that spends so much time in the air that he seems to forget just what it’s like to live outside the airport rather than spending all of his time in it. He has one of the worst jobs too, he has to go to different companies to tell people they’ve been fired, which seems like a heartless kind of thing for anyone to really enjoy doing.
1. Identity Thief
Melissa McCarthy is awesome in this film. She’s the worst kind of thief there is, stealing identities and then maxing out credit cards while ruining said identities and not caring about who’s getting the shaft. Jason Bateman is the one guy that’s not going to take it sitting down however, but by the end they somehow end up becoming friends.
St. Louis looks like a fun town, it’d be worth it just to be there on a filming day.
