The First Official Ocean’s 8 Photo has Been Released

Warner Bros and Village Roadshow pictures have released the first official photo of the highly anticipated Ocean’s 8.  As you can see the photo is captured in a very familiar place in New York: the subway.   The photo also reveals some of the heavy hitting females that will be starring in the film.  According to Coming Soon:

Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) attempts to pull off the heist of the century at New York City’s star-studded annual Met Gala. Her first stop is to assemble the perfect crew: Lou (Cate Blanchett); Nine Ball (Rihanna); Amita (Mindy Kaling); Constance (Awkwafina); Rose (Helena Bonham Carter); Daphne Kluger (Anne Hathaway); and Tammy (Sarah Paulson).

We’ve heard that Matt Damon will make a cameo in the film.  We assume he’ll be reprising his role as Linus Caldwell who appeared in the first three Ocean’s movies. Damian Lewis will play the villain, James Corden will play an insurance investigator, and Dakota Fanning and Richard Armitage also have roles. Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Anna Wintour, Adriana Lima and Katie Holmes will have cameos.

No word on whether or not Brad Pitt or George Clooney will appear in the film.   Ocean’s 8 is taking on a new director.  Steven Soderbergh took on the first three but the directing reigns have been handed over to an Oscar winning director in Gary Ross who is known for The Hunger Games and Seabiscuit.   Soderbergh is still involved in the film as a screenwriter so his prints will certainly be on this movie.

It’s a movie series that is fun, mysterious and has always captivated audiences.  The question is can a female lead cast produce the same results?  Hopefully it won’t have the same turnout as the Ghostbusters reboot.  With this kind of star power there’s a lot of potential but putting together a huge cast doesn’t always translate to box office smash it.  Though Sandra Bullock as a lead cannot hurt.
