Final Fantasy VII Remade Snow Sculpture at Sapporo Snow Festival

Final Fantasy VII Remade Snow Sculpture at Sapporo Snow Festival

If you like winter and you enjoy snow sculptures then it doesn’t get any better than the Sapporo Snow Festival in Japan.   Each year the festival takes place in a Northern region of Japan, this year its in Hokkaido.  One of the main features of this year’s festival is this depiction of Final Fantasy VII.   Every year, the Japanese military moves mountains and mountains of snow so that these sculptures can get made.

To give you a sense of scale, take a look at the bottom left of the photo.  That’s a human being.  Yeah.  These sculptures wind up being the size of many homes.   The detail is impeccable and the work that goes into this almost cannot be measured.   With regard to this Final Fantasy piece there was only one complaint from viewers.  Cloud’s head is actually quite small.   According to Famitsu, this was due to the snow’s weight. It was necessary to make his lower back larger so the sculpture wouldn’t collapse.

Another sculpture that’s drawing eyeballs is a Star Wars snow sculpture, which happens to be another massive one.  In that sculpture we see C3PO, R2D2, and BB8 to the left.   More photos below:

Here’s another shot where you can see a bit more detail of Final Fantasy:
