I finally went ahead and got Netflix. I was one of original subscribers of the service back when DVDs were the biggest thing. Back then I was a big fan but of course then I didn’t have children so watching a few DVDs a week was highly doable. However, once I knew that kids were on the horizon it was somewhat pointless to have DVDs dropped off at my house. This was at least 6-8 years ago.
Amazingly I’ve had a smart TV all this time in my new home (which we’ve been living in for 2 years) and I’ve never, not once entertained the idea of Netflix. I’m old school. I still have cable, have Amazon Prime and was pretty sure that would be all I needed. And yet here I am watching the same movies on TMC, STARZ, HBO, Encore, you name it. I literally have everything and I have to admit that Fios’s on demand platform sucks, severely. If I want to watch an old school 80s movie I haven’t seen in a while I have to buy or rent it? I mean, really? That’s brutal.
So I finally got Netflix last night and it’s on. 9.99 a month (11.99 for higher quality HD) and my first program was the Louis C.K. special which was absurdly funny. My wife stayed up until 2am watching 13 Reasons Why and I can already tell Netflix is going to become a huge part of my household.
If you want a movie you haven’t seen in a while, it’s likely they’ll have it and yes, it’s part of the subscription. Plus it’s like going to the movie theaters because the original films they do are just as high quality as what’s out today only it’s also part of the subscription.
It’s not surprise why they are taking over the media universe. I sound like an advertisement but honestly it’s just that good and I’m not even 24 hours in. I’m extremely tempted to just move to basic cable, get my Game of Thrones on HBO GO, make sure I can see Shameless on Showtime, and call it day,
