The House of the Dragon Season 2 trailers are finally here, and a war awaits. HBO gave fans two epic trailers portraying the impending battle between The Blacks, led by Queen Rhaenyra and her husband/uncle Daemon, and The Greens ( The Hightowers), led by Rhaenyra’s stepbrother, King Aegon II and his mother, Alicent Hightower, for the Iron Throne. The Dance of the Dragons, commonly referred to in George R.R. Martin’s books depict the Targaryen civil war that HBO sets up in detail in House of The Dragon Season 1.
In the previous season, the late King Viserys’ words are misinterpreted, and Alicent believes her son will be the next king instead of the rightful heir, Rhaenyra. It leads to tension as both are declared the next king of the seven kingdoms. As the tension in this family grows, Aegon II’s brother, Aemond, accidentally kills Rhaenyra’s son, Lucerys. With Lucerys gone, nothing stops Rhaenyra and Daemon from taking vengeance as they fight for their rightful inheritance. According to the Season 2 trailers, it will be a bloody one. Here is what you could have missed in the House of the Dragon Season 2 green and black trailers
The Black Trailer
The double trailers for House of the Dragon Season 2 indicate the ongoing conflict between these two powerful families. In House of the Dragon’s black trailer, Rhaenyra is going to war to claim the throne her father promised her. King Viserys promised her that she would be the heir, even ensuring that other houses swore allegiance to her despite knowing that many would not readily accept a queen as the next ruler of the seven kingdoms. Rhaenyra tries her best not to fight her stepbrother, but after Prince Lucerys’s death, she is determined to get her revenge. Whether his death was accidental or not, there is no stopping the war that’s already set in motion. The trailer also shows how devastated everyone in Rhaenyra’s Side is by the prince’s death, including Prince Daemon.
Another exciting aspect of the Black trailer is the return to the wall in the north, which is famous in this show’s prequel series, Game of Thrones. It could be the perfect chance to introduce a character from the Stark House of Winterfell. Jace is probably there to get the Stark’s loyalty in the fight. A house that has never wavered from its support for Rhaenyra is House Velaryon. Despite Rhaenys being against the war in House of the Dragon Season 1, she still offers wisdom and caution to Rhaenyra. The trailer ends with her narration, “when the desire to kill and burn takes hold and reason is forgotten, you will not even remember what began the war in the first place.” If Rhaenys had killed the Hightowers when she had the chance, this war for the throne could have been avoided.
The Green Trailer
The Green Trailer tells the war from the angle of the Hightowers. From Alicent’s point of view, she believes her late husband saw that the seven kingdoms wouldn’t accept a woman as the next ruler, so that’s why he chose his son Aegon to succeed him on his deathbed. She and her father do not understand why Rhaenyra doesn’t see things from their perspective. Like the Blacks, the Hightowers are also preparing for war, knowing that Rhaenyra will take revenge for the death of her son. A clip from the trailer with Aegon’s wife, Helaena, seemingly in mourning, shows the aftermath of Blood and Cheese’s actions to avenge Lucerys’s death, which readers are more familiar with. In the book, Daemon hires Blood and Cheese to kill King Aegon II’s son, Jaehaerys.
King Aegon II is also shown more in the Green trailer, indicating that he will be more active than in House of the Dragon Season 1. Alicent tells him many people have sacrificed much to get him on the throne. Viewers will probably see what Aegon II thinks about being put on the throne he never initially wanted. One of the more exciting feuds The Green trailer teases is the coming showdown between Daemon and Prince Aemond. In the trailer, Aemond teases that his uncle is a challenge he welcomes if he dares face him. This fight to the death is epic in R.R Martin’s Fire & Blood and will be thrilling to see play out on screen.
Kings Landing is also preparing for a dragon attack in the Green trailer, indicating that fans will see plenty more dragons than in House of the Dragon Season 1. The dragons will play a massive role in who wins the dance of the dragons, so whichever team has more of them is more likely to win the war. Fans might have missed the crowns Aegon II and Rhaenyra wear. Aegon II wears Aegon the Conqueror’s crown, while Rhaenyra is seen wearing her late father’s crown. They both want the throne, but who will live long enough to rule the seven kingdoms? Here is why the House of the Dragons four-season plan is perfect.
