B. Alan Orange of MovieWeb and many others are no doubt being given a lot of thanks as they’re bringing the news that Bob’s Burgers has not been canceled by Disney and will be released this coming July of 2020. The report that the movie had been canceled no doubt left a lot of fans adrift and wondering just why such a thing would happen and why Disney would be so cruel as to yank away something that people were hoping for and counting on, but apparently that erroneous message has been contradicted by stating that the movie will absolutely be coming without any fail. Considering that the movie was announced back in 2017, well before Fox even became a part of Disney’s continued expansion in the entertainment industry, it was likely believed by many that this would be one of the many cuts that Disney had been talking about when it came to which Fox properties would be kept and which ones would be pushed forward. Disney released a comment that might appease the fans even more as they stated:
“We’re thrilled to be invited to bring Bob’s Burgers to the big screen. We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show. We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s, but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!”
There hasn’t been a lot of material pertinent to the movie that’s been released between 2017 and 2019, but you can’t really blame those in charge for such a thing since leaks are pretty common in this era and at the moment they’re one of the biggest errors that can ruin a movie for a lot of people, especially considering what just happened with the Star Wars leak that happened recently as mentioned by Christi Carras of the Los Angeles Times. So far there really haven’t been any details about the movie but the creators have let it slip that the movie is going to have a musical element to it that will hopefully be a big attraction for the many fans that have helped to make this show one of the more popular programs throughout the years. Those that have been paying attention to the show for so long will understand just how important the musical bits will be to the overall movie and will no doubt be psyched to hear them. Next summer seems like a long time to wait, but given that people have been following Bob’s Burgers for so long that they’ll likely go to any lengths to keep up their interest. Unfortunately it’s no longer on Netflix, but there are other ways to access the episodes such as buying the DVD set or subscribing to Hulu, where it still seems to be playing. After all, it might be a good idea for some folks to brush up on old episodes and those that are interested but have never seen an episode to start binge-watching in order to really get the feel of the show.
From a personal standpoint it’s never been a favorite but it’s been interesting to watch people go gonzo over it as much as they’ve done for other shows since it does mean that it has something that can’t be denied and is appealing to a large number of people. Animated shows have been on the rise for a long time and have had their moments when their popularity has waned due to lack of creativity or forward momentum, but their staying power to date has been insanely impressive since only a handful have ever seemed destined to go down in TV history as true success stories while a few have come and gone without any real chance to ingratiate themselves to the public. Bob’s Burgers at one time seemed as though it might be one of the shows that might show up and be gone the next day, but obviously that wasn’t the plan as it’s stuck around for a while now and has become something of a true phenomenon that people are ready and willing to embrace. Fans are notoriously fickle when it comes to their favorite shows and movies, but at this point Bob’s Burgers has obviously moved past the initial acceptance phase and has become something of a legend that no longer needs to worry about being canceled in an arbitrary manner since people would likely take to social media in a storm of public opinion if it was to be taken off the air. Thankfully that’s not the plan and the movie will be moving forward, but we’ll have to wait a little longer to get any concrete details.
