Everything We Know About New TV Series “Lone Star”

Fox Entertainment continues to have some of the best shows to keep us entertained, and when we think it cannot get better, it does through spin-offs. Many shows ranging from sitcoms to drama now have spin-offs, and Lone Star has joined the club. Since the announcement came a few days ago, here is what we have learned so far regarding this new series.

It stars Rob Lowe

Rob Lowe is a man whose acting career started in his teens but then almost ended after a scandalous sex videotape that involved a minor. He did his time- 20 hours of community service- and sought help for his drug problems, and today his star still shines. Television wise, he is most remembered for his role in West Wing (which got him back into Hollywood) in which he earned $100,000 per episode and now, he will be starring in “Lone Star” as a New York cop who goes to Austin with his son.

It is a spin-off

Nowadays almost every great series has a spin-off and Lone Star is based on 9-1-1. It is a drama series produced for Fox Broadcasting Company as explained by Wikipedia. Its first season premiered on January 3, 2018, and it has captured quite an audience considering that it was renewed for its third season in March 2019. According to Michael Thorn, the President of Fox Entertainment speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, the spin-off presents them an excellent opportunity to expand the franchise in new territory, both figuratively and literally.

Rob Lowe will also be a co-executive producer

Rob Lowe will not just be the lead character but will assist as an executive producer. While in the past he has gotten many award nominations such as the Golden Globe Award and Primetime Emmy Award, his work as an executive producer is yet to receive any recognition. Rob’s first attempt at executive producing a show was with “The Lyon’s Den” which failed, but Rob still tried again in 2004 with “Dr. Vegas” that got canceled too. Maybe it is for this reason he has decided to be a co-executive producer, and perhaps the next time he decides to do it solo, he will be successful.

Three names are behind the series’ creation and production

Ryan Murphy is one of the producers behind the creation of “Lone Star.” Although his television channel is involved in the series production alongside 20th century, he left 20th Century Fox Television to work for Netflix on a contract reportedly to last for five years and worth $300 million. Ryan is alongside Brad Falchuk who he teamed up with to co-create Glee, and Tim Minear is the third person in the team of producers, and the ability of the three to create unique and great television is unmatched.

It is set in Austin, Texas

When Michael Thorn talked of giving the franchise a new territory literally, what he had in mind was the fact that “Lone Star” will be set in Austin Texas. As revealed by Austin360.com when the plan of producing the spin-off came to be, it was supposed to be in a location very different from Los Angeles. Consequently, since the preferred location was as far away from the coasts as possible to showcase a piece of America, then it is no surprise that they settled on Austin.

The concept is similar to that of 9-1-1

9-1-1 series is based on the same concept, and according to fandom, it is a fast-paced drama that explores the careers and lives of first responders who put their lives on the line trying to save others. Similarly, its spin-off has the same concept it is about a New York cop who heads to Austin with his son and has to balance helping those in need as he also handles his problems.

It will premiere in 2019-20 season

Fox released its 2019-20 lineup for the fall and Lone Star is slated to be among the new series. Other new shows that have been added include: “Prodigal Son” starring Tom Payne, the son of a convicted serial killer played by Michael Sheen, who has resolved to hunt murderers, “Not Just Me” starring Timothy Hutton and Brittany Snow, “Bless the Harts” which is an animated comedy, and ” Deputy” among several others.

It is produced by 20th Century Fox TV

The spin-off is produced by 20th century Fox which has collaborated with Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision. Brad and Ryan have experience working with 20th Century Fox Television, but it seems like both are looking for greener pastures. While Ryan has already signed with Netflix, Brad’s contract with 20th Century Fox Television is set to expire this June, and he is moving to Netflix too with a four-year deal worth eight figures, according to Television Business International.

It is not clear if the flagship cast will join the spin-off

9-1-1 has some of the best actors and actresses. In October 2017, those who were included in the main cast were Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, and Connie Britton and later in other big names in the acting industry were added and they are Rockmund Dunbar, Kenneth Choi, Aisha Hinds, and Oliver Stark. While we would love watching these talented faces in both the series and its spin-off, no other cast members have been revealed to be in Lone Star, according to TV Guide.

It is wholly owned by 20th Century Television

While the other five new dramas joining the fall lineup will have Fox Entertainment as a co-producer, Lone Star will remain fully owned by 20th Century Television
