We know that all of you die-hard “Sons of Anarchy” fans out there in TVland quickly became even bigger fans of the exciting spinoff series, “Mayans MC”. After all, it’s faster-moving, better written, and much more exhilarating even than SOA ever hoped to be. A few of the original Sam Crow boys are back in Mayans but the show also has an entire cast of newbies to entertain us during each unforgettable episode. And, although we hated to see it end when the Season 1 finale came along, we know we’ll be just as thrilled when it comes back. When will that be though? Well, many viewers everywhere have been wondering about that, so here’s what we know so far.
Premiere Date?
According to TV Guide, Mayans MC Season 2 is ready to roll and the season premiere is coming in 2019. Vague enough for you? Now, that could be Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter of 2019 but we’re hoping for Spring, of course. Since the show was actually renewed less than halfway thru Season 1, you’d think they would have a firm Season 2 premiere date but c’est la vie. All good things come to those who wait and we’re absolutely sure that Season 2 will be at least as good as Season 1 was and that’s really saying something, too. The fact is that a number of sources that may or may not actually be reliable are saying September 2019. We’ll probably just have to wait and see.

Season 1 aired on FX Tuesdays at 10/9c and the following were the first ten episodes and their air dates:

Unique Openings
One of the things that set each and every one of the exciting Mayans MC’s season 1 episodes apart from other shows would definitely have to be the highly creative openings. Every opening included an unusual scene that included the critter from the episode title. Often the scenes were gruesome, shocking, or both but they definitely set the tone for that particular episode. In addition, that same critter sometimes showed up later in the show to make it even more interesting. It’s quite similar to the use of the crow in SOA, especially in the final scene when Jax Teller meets his untimely end. There was a lot of symbolism at play there and it continues thru to Mayans MC.
A Major Hit Series
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show was launched on Sept. 4, 2018, and had the highest new cable series ratings of the entire year. During its first three episodes, it averaged 8.2 million viewers and that was across all of the platforms. In addition, Mayans was the top-rated series on Tuesday-nights among all of the cable and/or broadcast showings for men ages 18 to 34 as well as other viewers from 18 to 49. All in all, the show has proven to be an extremely strong performer in the ratings-race, just like SOA. It was so popular that the announcement of its renewal for a second season came only four episodes into its first season’s ten-episodes.
Mayans MC performed fantastically during its breakout first season, according to the President of Original Programming of FX Productions, Nick Grad. He also stated that Mayans MC started out by premiering as the top-rated cable series of 2018, while also continuing to hold onto its fan base, which is fully committed to the show. This is a reflection of both the drive and talent of the show’s creators, Sutter and James.
Season 2 Cast
The Season 2 cast will include:
- JD Pardo returning as Ezekiel ‘EZ’ Reyes
- Clayton Cardenas playing Angel Reyes
- Sarah Bolger as the lovely Emily Thomas
- Michael Irby playing Obispo ‘Bishop’ Losa
- Carla Baratta as the rebel leader Luisa ‘Adelita’ Espina
- Richard Cabral playing Johnny ‘Coco’ Cruz and others
- Ray McKinnon as the much-reviled Agent Potter
Season 2 Predictions
One prediction that we see as quite credible would be that the lovely Mrs. Galindo aka Ezy Pardo’s ex-girlfriend, will become the new drug kingpin during hubby’s absence. Sure, she seemed so sweet and innocent and definitely put-off by her rich husband’s career choices but more and more, episode by episode, she seemed to become more immersed in the business end of things. We’re guessing that this turn of events will put an end to any chances of EZ and Emily getting back together and living happily ever after. Somehow, it would seem that the sweet Ms. Emily will be an even tougher more ruthless boss than hubby ever hoped to be.
We also predict that Edward James Olmos as EZ and Angel’s long-suffering father will play an even bigger part in their fight against evil than in Season 1. He’s just too good an actor to keep standing in the background so it’s time to see more of his fighting spirit and let him be the consummate hero of season 2. Another prediction involves Angel and Adelita. They even have the perfect names for being a couple. They’re also considered by audiences everywhere to be incredibly cute together, so we see them getting together and making some real fireworks in Mayans MC Season 2!
As far as the rotten scoundrel, Potter, we predict that the Pardo brothers and their pals will get the better of him (finally) and knock that Fed chip off of his shoulder once and for all. We do love watching him on the small screen, however, as he’s the perfect character-you-love-to-hate from his crazy hairdos down to the soles of his shoes. So, we are hoping to see more of his awfulness in Mayans MC Season 2 right up until the time that he gets his comeuppance at the hands of the MC. On the other hand, mightn’t it be delicious if Emily Galindo gets to be his undoing? Hmm, can’t wait to see how it plays out! We know that we’ll be tuned in when September comes and the show premieres. How about you?
