Engineering Student Builds Sick Mechanical Raptor Costume

Raptor Costume

Whether one is an engineering student or not this would be impressive all the same since creating a raptor out of PVC pipe with glue, string or very thin rope, and whatever material was used for the outer shell is extremely impressive. The number of hours put into this had to be pretty extensive since coming up with the concept, the dimensions, and eventually getting everything to where it fit just right and looked the way that the creator wanted would take a while it seems. But honestly just watching it walk around and move about is insane since the movements seem to be as genuine as they can be for a construct such as this as even the tail wags the way it needs to while walking. That could be just a byproduct of the materials and how they sway when in motion, but then again coming from an engineering student it would seem that everything on this construct might have a well-defined purpose. Lori Dorn of the Laughing Squid covered this a little more if you want to take a look.

A lot of people have liked dinosaurs since they were kids, as it’s something that’s been marketed for a long time now and is insanely appealing to children for a number of reasons. The reality about dinosaurs however is something that turns some people off as they get older, or the interest simply wanes as things tend to do when we start to age. You could thank Jurassic Park for reintroducing dinosaurs in a big way to the mainstream since the movies took over and tended to give the creatures a new look that we didn’t fully expect and that paleontologists came to argue with quite a bit since a lot of what we’ve seen are fabricated monsters that don’t seem to look like the real thing. Of course there’s just as much guesswork in paleontology if people are going to be honest since divining what the creatures of that long ago era looked like down to a tee is at best an uncertain science. Seriously, with complete fossil records it might be possible, but without being there to see these things it’s kind of hard to tell for certain.

The study of how creatures have evolved with their surroundings and how they move, react to one another, hunt, and what kind of physiology they possessed is easy enough to guess at since the creatures we see in the world at this time are a pretty good example. Some species have been around for centuries and even millennia while others have adapted and evolved from earlier ancestors that were either more efficient in their methods or less so and eventually came to resemble what we have now. Dinosaurs are still theorized to have died out for a few reasons, though it really depends on who you ask and what their theory says. The truth is that their descendants might still be around but any and all evidence of their ever having been here comes from the many different fossils that have been recovered throughout the years. History is a funny thing really, those that write it tend to influence the world around them a great deal, especially if their written account is seen to trump any other belief that’s out there. In this regard the history of the dinosaurs is still questionable at times but seems to at least have been provided without too much bias.

There was a point and time, and still might be in fact, that some people would gladly deny the existence of such creatures and even the process of evolution. A lot of this comes from fundamentalist belief that creationism is the only way to believe and that anything else is just flawed and full of lies, but the evidence that’s been found within the ground is kind of hard to deny. Dinosaurs did exist at one time but what we know about them is still very little compared to what we might know if they were to still be walking the earth today. Of course if that was the case humanity might not be so worried about overpopulating the earth since it seems likely that the dinosaurs would be taking care of that in part. You’ve got to admit, living in a world where dinosaurs were still around and still doing what they did would be different enough that mankind might not be worried so much about the many differences that lie between us. Ashley Powers of the Kitsap Sun has a few interesting things to say.

Getting back to the raptor suit, this person must have a serious love of dinosaurs that a lot of us can attest to or at least could at one time since the time and patience put into this must have been great indeed. That being said the level of skill and attention to detail is striking since when in motion this thing walks along smoothly and without any real difficulty it looks like. It’s impressive without a doubt.
