Elon Musk Reacts To Apple’s New AI Partnership With A Potential Ban On Devices

In a series of posts, Musk declared that if the Tim Cook-run tech giant links arms with OpenAI, then all their products will be “banned” from X, Tesla, SpaceX, the Boring Company and any other company Musk owns, as well as it being an unacceptable security violation if Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level.

Elon Musk Reacts To Apple’s New AI Partnership With A Potential Ban On Devices

Apple reveals new AI plans

During the recent Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple announced a major shift toward artificial intelligence with a partnership involving OpenAI. The collaboration aims to integrate ChatGPT into Apple’s ecosystem, including iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia later this year. Apple, a latecomer to artificial intelligence, has struck a deal with OpenAI and developed tools to improve its Siri voice assistant, which it is set to showcase on Monday.

Musk’s stern response

Elon Musk quickly responded through a series of heated tweets. He criticized Apple for relying on third-party AI technology, which he considers a major security risk. If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies, Musk wrote. He went on to state that visitors would have to check their Apple devices and keep them stored in Faraday cages while inside his company premises.

Musk’s longstanding issues with OpenAI

This isn’t the first time Elon Musk has voiced his displeasure with OpenAI, an organization he initially co-founded. He has previously sued the company over its departure from its original mission of being open-source. Apple has no clue what’s actually going on once they hand your data over to OpenAI, Musk declared without providing evidence. He stated that Apple was practically “selling users down the river.”

Concerns over user privacy

Despite Apple’s assurance of integrated privacy protections—including IP address obfuscation and data-use policies for users who choose to connect their accounts—Musk remains unconvinced.

Troubled by Apple’s partnership with a third-party AI, Musk insists that Apple’s actions are seen as a direct violation of user security. They can’t themselves create [the technology] but are capable of ensuring OpenAI will protect users’ security, he noted.
