Ellen Pompeo is a hugely talented and successful actress. She is best-known for ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, in which she has played the title character Dr. Meredith Grey since 2005. Pompeo has recently become the best-paid actress in a television drama after signing a contract to continue working on the drama for at least two years. The deal covers her role as an actress and as and producer of the series. She is also working as a co-executive producer on an untitled spin-off from the medical drama which is about firefighters. This spin-off series will premiere on March 22, 2018.
Industry gossip suggests that Pompeo will now earn upwards of $550,000 for each episode of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. This is a figure that puts her right at the top of the highest-paid actresses in television dramas. This is a step up from 2015 when she was ranked the fourth highest paid television actress with earnings of $11.5 million and her 2016 earnings of $14.5 million meant she retained the same position in the rankings.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is now in its 14th season and is the number one show on ABC within the 18-49 demographic. As a result of this new deal, Pompeo is guaranteed to remain in the series until at least season 16, which is great news for fans of the actress. However, the show has not yet officially been picked up by the network beyond this point. It is likely that the show will be picked up due to its success and, if it is, then it will overtake ‘ER’ as the longest-standing medical drama in United States television history.
Prior to playing Dr. Meredith Grey in the medical drama, Ellen Pompeo worked in both film and television. She made her film debut in the 1995 short film ‘Do You Have the Time’ and first appeared on television in the following year in ‘Law & Order’. Other films in which she has appeared include ‘Moonlight Mile’, ‘Catch Me If You Can’, ‘Undermind’, Art Heist’, and Life of the Party’. Her television roles prior to 2005include single episodes in series such as ‘Friends’, ‘Strong Medicine’, ‘Get Real’, and ‘The Job’.
Although she has predominantly focused on her role in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ since joining the cast in 2005, Ellen Pompeo has occasionally ventured into other projects. In 2015, she played herself in one episode of ‘Repeat After Me’ and she also provided the voice of Willow in an episode of ‘Doc McStuffins in 2017.
Having obtained such a lucrative deal to continue working on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, it is likely that this series will continue as Pompeo’s main focus in her career. Between this and working as the co-executive producer of the new firefighter series, she will have little time for anything else.
If her career was not enough, she also has a busy personal life. She has been married to Chris Ivery since 2007 and the couple has two daughters and a son. Stella was born in 2009 followed by Sienna in 2014 and Eli Christopher in 2016. As she is managing her professional life with caring for three young children, she is worth every dollar of her deal.
