The incredibly talented Eamon Farren is a bit of a mystery man. We’ve been watching him in films and on television for almost two decades now, and he’s definitely one of Hollywood’s rising stars. However, he doesn’t ever seem to make the news or tabloids unless it’s a report about one of his starring roles. Finding more information on him hasn’t been an easy task, but we’re always up for a challenge, and we love learning more about our favorite stars. Here are ten things you didn’t know about Eamon Farren. Warning, Spoilers Ahead! Some of the facts about Eamon Farren contain information about shows and movies he’s been a part of, and they may contain spoilers about what happened during the filming and give away plot points.
1. Being Certain
Some people end up acting almost by accident. Others have parents who put them on the path to stardom when they were young. Alternately, many stars struggled with the choice to focus on their theatrical careers. Eamon Farren is none of those. He’s said he always knew that he was going to become an actor. “I can’t remember a time when I didn’t watch a movie and think, ‘That’s what I want to do’… Growing up, people said you have to have a plan B. I never felt that, I always thought, nah, this is what I’m going to do.”
2. Pursuing Goals
The path to stardom is seldom easy. Though Eamon knew that he was headed for the big screen, things weren’t exactly smooth. He auditioned for a drama school in Queensland, but they turned him down. That scared the young actor, and he decided to attend a regular university for a while instead. However, he didn’t connect with the subjects there and went back to his passion. Eventually, he went to NIDA (the National Institute of Dramatic Arts) and graduated, moving forward with his life long dream, and we’re certainly glad he didn’t give up.
3. He’s a Fan
Like most of us, Eamon grew up watching TV and movies. Many of us dreamed of being part of the worlds we saw on screen. We wanted to visit Hogwarts or hang out with the kids from our favorite teen sitcom. Eamon, on the other hand, wanted to be the one who played those parts, but he’s also a fan of other actors. He told Vogue that he enjoys the films of Leonardo DiCaprio and he’s a massive fan of Gary Oldman.
4. It’s a Sign
Born May 19th, 1985, this 34-year-old actor is a Taurus. Whether you believe in the zodiac or not, Eamon is typical of his star sign in at least one obvious way. He was incredibly stubborn about what he wanted to do in life, and he managed to push through all his challenges to get there. We’re not sure if we’d call him ‘bullheaded,’ but he certainly doesn’t give up in the face of adversity. Tauruses are known for being stubborn and methodical, but they also like to relax in peace and enjoy natural beauty. That seems pretty spot-on if you ask us.
5. Silver Platter
While he’s performed a lot of great roles, Eamon is perhaps best known for his time on the Twin Peaks reboot. Oddly, it wasn’t a role he sought out. In fact, he never auditioned at all. Farren had been in a movie called Chained with David Lynch’s daughter Jennifer. Eamon assumes that her famous father must have seen the film because his agent got a call out of the blue on a Wednesday afternoon, asking if he was available to be in the Twin Peaks remake. He accepted without even knowing what part he would play, and it was that simple.
6. Grandma
Those that have seen the Twin Peaks reboot are well aware that Eamon’s character has a penchant for violence, especially against women and children. There was a scene where his character, Richard Horne, attacks and chokes his grandmother. While Richard plays a creep every bit as well as he plays any other role, he’s not unaffected by his on-screen actions. After doing that scene, he called his own grandmother to check up on her and make sure she was feeling well.
7. Beach Parties
Growing up on the Gold Coast of Australia from the age of six wasn’t precisely the wild and weird environment Hollywood actors get used to in L.A. When he was in The Present on Broadway with Cate Blanchett, Playbill asked everyone in the production about their favorite party memories. It was immensely apropos since The Present is about a birthday party. For Eamon, the best parties weren’t red carpet affairs, but rather those of his youth, listening to music on the beach.
8. Romance Language
Most of us took a second language in high school. If pressed, we can remember a few phrases, but we’re far from fluent after such a short time. Eamon, however, attended Benowa State High School. While he was there, he studied in its French Immersion Program. That means that, though he took all the usual classes, at least fifty percent of the time, his subjects were taught in French. Immersion is a great way to learn a language, and we’re pretty sure that means Eamon is, at least moderately, fluent in French.
9. Real Actors
In a recent Twitter post, Eamon showed his sense of humor, and his willingness to do whatever it takes for a role. He’s pictured carrying his makeup on the set of ABC Murders. Clearly, he’s a funny guy with a sense of the Macabre.
10. Quiet
Though he’s an outstanding actor, and he even won the AACTA Award in 2015 for Best Guest Or Supporting Actor in a Television Drama for his dynamic role in Carlotta, Eamon is relatively private. He doesn’t run around getting in trouble and making the tabloids. If he’s dating, we don’t know who, and he’s not the sort of person who shares a ton of private details about his life.
Final Thoughts
We’ve seen Eamon in dozens of roles since he first starred in The Outsider with Naomi Watts back in 2001, and we’ve always enjoyed watching him work. As actors go, he has a delightful sense of his range, and he’s worked on a genuinely eclectic repertoire so far. We’re still watching ABC Murders, but we can’t wait to see what he does next.
