Disney’s ‘Toy Story 4’ Officially Receives June 21, 2019 Release Date

Disney’s Toy Story 4 is slated to be coming out in 2019 on June 21st. That seems like a tentative release date really since things tend to change all the time and it could be that by next year Disney could be thinking that they might want to think things over a bit. Plus, the idea of another Toy Story when the actual plot was able to reach a pleasing conclusion is kind of hard to imagine at this time. Fans got to see Andy go through the stages of getting a new toy but still keeping his old toys around, then almost losing a toy to a crooked collector only to get him back along with a couple of other toys, and then finally having to give up his favorite toys to head off to college. Throughout the three core movies people have seen the toys run the gamut of emotions you might expect from objects that have an obvious shelf life that is made to conform to the desires of their owners.

So why bother going back to the well for another try? There haven’t been any real rumors about the movie’s plot yet, but there seems to be some idea that it could explore the relationship between Bo Peep and Woody, and possibly how it ended. If you remember correctly Bo Peep wasn’t around in the third movie since she was one of the toys that got ditched because Molly and Andy didn’t want her anymore. It was a very poignant reminder that the toys would have to incur losses as time went on, as their lives are, to them, something completely different than they are to the humans that play with them. That might seem a little depressing but it’s how things are really in the story and something that the toys have to live with.

But coming back with a part four seems to prolong the agony of it all, even if it will explain the dynamics between Woody and Bo. Right now it seems that Disney is content to squeeze every last cent they can out of every franchise in order to see just how far it can go. This is undoubtedly keeping their writers on their toes and perhaps wondering just how far they’re going to have to push things until the story simply becomes unbelievable at some point. Even for a story that’s focusing on the lives of toys, this is becoming a bit stretched. Trying to milk every last idea out of a franchise seems like a poor idea of managing their talent and their brand, but as a lot of us aren’t in the business of making movies or trying to figure out what people want, it seems that Disney will go about doing it their way and possibly drive the franchise into obscurity.

If it is a good movie then I’ll gladly eat my words. If not however, if it’s something that should have never been made, then it might be that Toy Story has run its course and deserves a rest.
