Disney has given the go-ahead for the third season of Andi Mack. For those who are unfamiliar with that name, Andi Mack is a sitcom that has been running on the Disney Channel since April of 2017. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it is centered around Peyton Elizabeth Lee in the titular role, meaning that it is focused to a great extent on her personal issues as well as the various ways by which she handles them.
With that said, a lot of people will be familiar with Andi Mack because of its unusual premise for the Disney Channel. In short, Andi Mack starts when the titular character’s older sister comes home when she is turning 13. However, what should’ve been a simple and straightforward reunion becomes much more complicated when she learns that her older sister is actually her biological mother, whereas the person who she has always considered to be her mother is actually her biological grandmother. As a result, there is a fair amount of fall-out from the revelation, though in the end, Andi Mack is very much a coming-of-age story that stresses the importance of both friends and family members, which is to be expected of something shown on the Disney Channel.
Why Did Disney Give the Go-Ahead?
Disney’s reasoning for giving the go-ahead for the third season of Andi Mack was simple and straightforward. In short, they acknowledged that the reveal was unusual for the Disney Channel, but they stated that the authenticity of the storytelling nonetheless enabled it to connect with the viewers on a fundamental level. This seems to have been borne out by the viewership numbers for Season 2, which have made it one of the most popular series in Disney’s line-up. As a result, it is no wonder that Disney has given the go-ahead for another season of the series, particularly since it can claim to be diverse as well, which is something that appeals to a significant number of people out there who are hungry for representation on the screen.
Not too much information has been revealed about what interested individuals can expect from Season 3 of Andi Mack. After all, Season 2 is still in the process of being broadcast, meaning that it is still premature to go into exhaustive detail into what the future might hold. However, something things are nonetheless known to us. For example, we know that the third season of Andi Mack can be expected sometime later in 2018. The exact start-up date isn’t known, but considering that 12 new episodes of Season 2 will be broadcast starting in June of 2018, a general idea of the timing is not difficult to guess. Furthermore, since the series has not hesitated to have significant turning points for its characters, it seems probable that the viewers more of this kind of storytelling from the future.
