Michael Mahoney called “Take It!” the best episode of the season in his review, which you can read here.
And now, let’s put on our Jordan Chase onesies and recap what happened.
Dexter attends one of Jordan Chase’s seminars to check it out and also work on figuring out a way to murder Cole Harman. The seminar is more of a rally, complete with big screens, flashing lights and hundreds of excited Chase followers. ‘I’ve never been around so many people that made me feel normal…really normal,’ Dexter thinks.
LaGuerta arrives at work that day to a mob of press asking about the undercover operation that ended up with the loss of innocent life. “There are going to be consequences,” she says to the team. Deb talks to Quinn about that night, and how she shot and killed Carlos Fuentes, but says she doesn’t feel bad and that’s the problem. A Morgan sibling killing someone who deserved it and not feeling bad sound familiar? Interesting parallel there between her and her brother Dexter.
Dexter is nodding off at the Chase rally. Just then there’s a break, so Dexter heads outside. Lumen calls him and says she can’t find out how the men in the photo they found in the previous episode know each other. They all went to different high schools. Cole approaches Dexter who hangs up the phone to speak to him. Cole lets him know that Mr. Chase spotted him from the stage and would like to speak with him, so Dexter follows him to his suite. Chase tells Dexter he knows why he came to the rally; he’s trying to cope with the loss of his wife. Dexter goes along with it, and Chase tells him that he’d like to speak with Dexter more about it and then asks if there’s any progress on Boyd Fowler. Dexter says he wouldn’t know, and departs.
Lumen gets a call from Owen, the man she almost married just a few months prior. He says that he’s in Miami and wants to see her, and she agrees. Dexter walks in just as she hangs up and brings her dinner and a list of things she needs to pick up the next day so he can prepare the kill room for Cole. Dexter goes home and finds Deb covering for the nanny. Deb tells him that she has mandatory appointments with a shrink on the horizon because she killed Carlos, but she says she’d do it all over again, and then she also admits to Dexter that she doesn’t feel bad – she doesn’t feel anything in fact – for killing him. “Dad once told me that some people deserve to die,” he says. “You believe that?” she asks. “Some people don’t deserve to live,” he replies.
The next day, Dexter is back at the Chase event. He slips out early and goes to the hotel room he booked right next to Cole’s. He breaks into Cole’s room to count the steps from the door to his bed, since it’ll be dark when he attacks him.
Meanwhile, Lumen goes to meet Owen. He’s bought round-the-world plane tickets and says he wants to take the journey with her. She says she can’t just leave, and he gives her the night to think it over.
Deb and Quinn watch at home while LaGuerta’s press conference airs on the news. They then find out that Deb has been placed on immediate suspension with pay pending the results of the internal investigation.
