It’s been a while since we’ve seen Dennis Franz hasn’t it? There’s a very simple reason for it, he’s taken himself out of the picture as of 2005 since he wanted out of the spotlight to focus on his private time with his wife. That seems like a good reason, right? After all during the 80’s and 90’s he was one of the more prolific actors that roamed the halls of Hollywood taking on various roles and becoming one of the most well-known faces that people enjoyed seeing now and again. He wasn’t the biggest star of either decade but he was so prevalent that it wasn’t always customary to not hear from him now and again. His fame came from shows like NYPD Blue and various other projects that he worked on, but his talent for being in the right place at the right time was great since he always showed up where you least expected him. In fact he even showed up on Celebrity Deathmatch on MTV at one point. Well, it was a claymation version of him but it was a good likeness all the same.
The chances of seeing him come back aren’t all that great but it seems like he would come back if the right part opened up. Otherwise he’s just as happy staying away and enjoying his time spent with his wife in Idaho. It could be that he’s simply grown used to being out of the spotlight, but the mere mention that he could come back if he had the right part seems to indicate that he misses it at least a little bit. Some actors manage to get away from the life and don’t ever want to go back since they became burned out. But others go away for a while and discover that they actually miss it. Franz seems like he’s been having a good time being away for the past thirteen years, though it’s easy to assume that he might want to come back now and again just to show people that he’s still around. After all there are those out there that would jump to the conclusion that since they haven’t seen a certain actor for a while that they might have passed away.
That’s kind of an erroneous way to think obviously but it’s still a part of the public consciousness that can’t be avoided. People tend to think that whatever isn’t in their scope has either passed on from relevance or just passed on entirely. Franz is still very much alive and kicking and is enjoying his life. For whatever reason he left the life and didn’t look back, though he did make a surprise appearance at the 2016 Primetime Emmy Awards. That must have been a treat for a lot of people to see him, but they shouldn’t be reading too much into it since he went right back to his retirement. At this point he has a wife and two stepdaughters that he enjoys spending his time with and it doesn’t seem as though he’s going to give that up.
For the right part though it seems he might consider making his way back.
