David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens Dropped: What’s Next for the DCEU?

It’s not for certain yet but Gotham City Sirens may have been dropped in favor the new Joker and Harley Quinn movie. Some fans are thinking that this might be too bad, that a team consisting of three of Gotham’s most notorious female villains teaming up might be highly entertaining. Then there are those that think it might have been a good idea to just up and drop it like an unwanted sack of bricks. It’s hard to know which way to go without sounding too sexist, but here goes.

You can already guess that one reason why the film would be made and would likely be kind of popular would be the overall sex appeal. I mean come on, have you ever seen a female Batman villain that was ugly or out of shape? Amanda Waller doesn’t count since she’s not technically a villain.

But aside from that the three women are some of Batman’s deadliest enemies simply because of what they can do.

Poison Ivy isn’t just attractive and alluring to men, she’s capable of controlling plant life on a scale that has been seen to actually cause the Batman some distress in the past. Plus she’s sly, sneaky, and not above killing to get what she wants. But she does have a softer side that isn’t always seen, no matter that it can be just as deadly.

Harley Quinn is, well, she’s nuts. But she was also at one point a very intelligent woman in truth she still is, but the crazy in her tends to get more play than the intelligent side. On top of that she’s extremely acrobatic and tough as nails despite her size and trim figure. In almost every appearance she’s made to date, cartoon and live action, she’s been just crazy enough to hardly ever be afraid of anything and gutsy enough to take on almost anyone. She has that wild, sensational charm that you can’t help giving into but know on a fundamental level you should resist.

Catwoman has the same skill set as Harvey but is also a master thief and not quite as nuts. In fact she’s a lot more sly than Harley and even more coy than Poison Ivy, but at the end of the day she’s just a regular human being that’s in great shape and knows how to fight. She’s been Batman’s nemesis for a long time and his on again off again lover for just about as long. The complex relationship between the two is somehow even more confusing than the one between Joker and Harley, but somehow they’ve made it work for them throughout the years by not making it work at all. Did that make sense? Probably not, but in comics things don’t need to make sense to work.

Anyway, the Sirens spinoff seems like it might be dead in the water at this point but nothing is for sure until you get the final word. The trio could have done something uniquely great, but unless someone is willing to pick it up again there’s no telling if that will ever happen.
