The Dark Tower TV Series Will Be Just Fine and Here’s Why

[easyazon_link identifier=”1501163566″ locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]If you’ve read the books[/easyazon_link] you should be able to understand everything I’m about to say. If not, well, then try to keep up. The Dark Tower is not doing well so far in the theaters, and there’s a good reason. It’s a series of books, not a single novel, that detail the story of Roland Deschain, son of Steven, the last gunslinger of Gilead. In the story the gunslinger is after the wizard and mischief-maker Martin, the man in black so to speak, in an attempt to make him pay for various crimes against Gilead, but also for his own personal sense of vengeance. Throughout his journey he meets three other individuals that all in their own time become gunslingers under his tutelage, in spirit if not in fact. There is Eddie Dean, Susannah Dean, and Jake Chambers. They all become as integral to the story, but would be better represented in a TV series than on film.

Why? Keep up with me now.

In the Drawing of the Three Roland meets Eddie and Susannah.

Eddie is a heroin junkie and Susannah is original known as Odetta Holmes/Detta Walker, a double amputee that suffers a serious case of split personality disorder. He has his own challenges with each person, and this could drive at least three or four episodes apiece at the very least. Their character arcs are interesting enough that they could be the main part of an entire season as they are pulled into Roland’s world and are forced to adapt.

The movie is essentially a sequel to the series.

Upon reaching the tower at the end of the series Roland is in a sorry state. He’s been through his own personal hell and lost a great deal. He remembers nothing however when he reaches the tower and steps through his own personal door into a cycle that he will continue on until who knows when. It’s at this point that the reader understands that once Roland hitched his fate to that of the tower that he entered this endless loop and would be doomed to repeat it again and again. The buildup to this would no doubt lose some fans, but true, diehard fans would be crowing with absolute delight as they follow the gunslinger along his many travels.

The chances for development are seemingly limitless.

Along the path of Roland’s demise and rebirth we find out a great deal about his past and that of his friends. Jake and Eddie and Susannah go through their own trials and tribulations that are interesting enough to devote entire episodes to and more. Plus there are Roland’s older and equally interesting comrades such as Cuthbert, a personal favorite, and Alain. Their adventure in Mid-world against the Big Coffin Hunters would be an absolute joy to watch if it was done correctly. The demise of the man in black is not the only goal the gunslinger ever sought after all.

This series would need to be picked up by HBO or someone equally as ready to throw down with the constant action and controversial material that many networks wouldn’t dare touch. Only then can [easyazon_link identifier=”1501163566″ locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]the Dark Tower series[/easyazon_link] really be given the attention it needs.
