I think that the only season of The Curse of Oak Island where there was no doubt that the show would return was season 2. The show took off like wildfire and The History Channel knew that it had a gem on its hands. The Lagina brothers were entertaining and their passion was infectious. Now in it’s 4th season, The Curse of Oak Island seems to be up in the air for a season 5. But doesn’t it seem that way every year? Other than the fact that it’s tough to keep a show running for 5 seasons when you realistically haven’t found any treasure you’re trying find, the Lagina brothers always seem to tire a bit when a season is done with.
Series creator Kevin Burns told high ratings that things were not set yet, explaining that: “Every year the brothers are very reluctant to agree to do any more. This was always a hard sell for them.” While this may seem like some kind of “publicity stunt” and there’s no doubt of a Season 5, there are some realistic factors that could stop the show entirely.
First of all, it’s the network that actually approached the brothers about doing another season, not the other way around. That puts in all in the hands of Rick and Marty. Second of all is the fact that Rick and Marty have to spend 4-5 months at a time away from their families. To me that’s a huge factor. I don’t care how much money you make, spending that much time away from loved ones is tough.
The last factor is how much money the show actually costs. Burns says they have spent $3-5 million alone on Season 4. How much of that did the Lagina brothers get? We’re not sure. Bottom line is if I’m a betting man I’d say there’s a 100% chance we see a season 5 of The Curse of Oak Island. In the meantime the finale for Season 4 draws closer and we’re pretty excited about it.
Here’s some bonus coverage for Season 4 while we wait on the finale and more news about season 5.
