This couple must listen to a lot of pop songs in order to be able to blend them into a medley like this. I don’t mean to be critical but their transitions need just a little help in some spots. In others they’re great despite the fact that the songs are very different. But there are those that are extremely clunky and leave you feeling like you’re stumbling forward suddenly after a smooth glide. It kind of hurts the ears if you really get into one track and then aren’t ready for the next one to hit. They do a great job on each track but having to listen to them bang against one another in such a short and almost staccato burst is kind of difficult at moments since it’s like bumping down the road while coming out of a successful power slide that lasts only a few feet at a time.
It’s impressive really to see how they incorporated so many tracks all into one piece but like I said it’s enough make you wince if you’re really listening to it and aren’t ready for each rough transition. Still, it makes you realize that there was an enormous amount of pop songs that came out this year, and they didn’t even nail all of them. Those that got the most play were obviously those that they picked up on. The songs that got played most frequently on the radio, those that sold the best on iTunes or in stores or on other platforms, and those that people tended to listen to over and over were definitely the ones that were given the most praise in this clip.
I do wish the guy would have found something else to do with his right hand between beats than allowing its motion to look so suggestive, but then that’s something I unfortunately noticed and others might miss unless they were watching. I’ll be honest once again even though it’s kind of critical. Their voices weren’t the best but then again they were onto something that didn’t require a mastery over their voices in such a fashion and could allow for a bit of discordance that would make the clip a bit more charming and less professional. After all it was something that was meant to be fun and light, not a professional-grade video.
Honestly I’m not sure my own voice would allow for so many different changes in that short amount of time. I might stumble on the first five transitions and then be done. That’s a big part of why it’s impressive, the range of both individuals is good enough to handle the changes that come with each new song and they pick it up fairly well without any real issue. The sound of their voices might not be perfect but it’s pleasing enough that one can get into it and try to ignore the clunky transitions that come along every now and again. Sorry, I can’t get those hard breaks out of my head, it was just distracting. But it was still an entertaining clip.
