If you want to get into an argument with a comic book fan about who would win in a fight then sometimes the best way to go is to compare the two superpowers, Marvel and DC, and then let the sparks fly. This time around the discussion is whether or not there could ever be a Black Panther vs. Batman movie, and it’s a fair enough question but it does seem kind of ludicrous to think that DC and Marvel would want a crossover movie any time soon since right now DC is struggling to break free of the Snyder-era and the MCU is revving up to make a comeback from the hangover of the Infinity War. Both companies are extremely busy and it seems as though they have their own issue to work out when it comes to their individual superheroes. Plus, given that both of these individuals are heroes it seems likely that if they fought, it would be over a serious misunderstanding.
But let’s take a stab at how it would go anyway.
Batman is known for being ready for just about anything.
The dark knight doesn’t often go into a fight without knowing what he’s up against, so if it ever came down to it and this fight was indeed going to happen he would no doubt want to have some intel on T’Challa in order to realize who he was fighting. His different fighting styles and gadgets and gizmos would give him a definite edge, but T’Challa’s suit is made to withstand an insane amount of punishment and allow him to keep fighting. Of course if you remember in Civil War he was greatly hampered by Black Widow’s stun bolts, even if he did manage to shrug them off and keep going. If Batman had his full arsenal on hand it might take T’Challa a little bit to really wear Batman down, and if Batman managed to be as precise as he usually is he could prove to be a very formidable opponent for Black Panther.
Black Panther is stronger.
T’Challa is physically stronger and faster than Bruce thanks to the heart-shaped herb that ingests, but Batman is no slouch. He is stronger than an average man and far quicker, but even then it seems like he’d be a step behind T’Challa. In terms of physical strength T’Challa seems to win out since he’s done a few things in the comics that make a person just widen their eyes in amazement. Blow for blow it would come down to who has the better fighting technique and who could prove faster than the other. Adding in their suits and their weaponry Batman has the edge as it’s already been stated with his many different weapons. But instead of being counted out T’Challa has his own hidden weapon, the fact that his suit can produce massive energy blasts as it continually absorbs the energy used against it. This can then be let out to decimate those around him. Being that it’s an energy attack Batman likely wouldn’t have as much of a defense against it and could be susceptible to being stunned momentarily. That would be all the time T’Challa would need to step in and finish the fight.
In the end it seems that Black Panther would be physically dominant, but Batman might have something up his sleeve.
Despite how close they are in strength and skill it does stand to reason that Batman never comes to a fight unprepared. If he were to go up against Black Panther without knowing anything about him or how he fights then it’s possible that Batman would lose very badly and find himself unable to come up with a counter for anything that T’Challa could throw at him. However, with enough time to research and plan Batman would no doubt have something in place even if he lost, a fail-safe that would even the odds not in his favor so much but just enough to put Black Panther on his guard and perhaps off his feet. Batman is hard to catch unawares, but even when it happens he seems to have contingencies that he can fall back on very quickly.
It’s easy to argue that these two wouldn’t need to fight since they’re both heroes, but then again heroes have fought in the comics and the movies for some time now. Just being on the same side isn’t enough for some heroes since their ideologies can clash as well and lead to the kind of arguments and resentment that eventually leads to a scuffle. Between Batman and Black Panther however it really seems that Black Panther would be the victor largely because he’s just too strong, too fast, and can take a great deal of what Batman can throw at him. If there was a crossover movie it would be great, but don’t hold your breath.
