Some people might think that looking Joel Osteen would be a good thing, others might see it as anything but. This guy however looks so much like him that he kind of made the most out of it in this clip. There’s enough of a difference there that Osteen’s clsoest relatives and friends would be able to tell the difference between them, but at a glance it could be that this guy would pass muster. Of course when this kind of thing happens you know the guy that looks like ‘the guy’ is going to push the envelope as much as possible. And amazingly he got into an event and a lot of people were effectively fooled. It’s tragic but funny in way really.
The fact that it was amazing tells you that Osteen doesn’t do a lot of stuff around the general public at his events, meaning while he might be a very well-renowned preacher he’s not exactly the type to mingle among his parishioners. This comedian however has definitely made his career jump with the chance he’s been given by his genetics to impersonate Osteen. You can imagine that Osteen’s reps and security weren’t too appreciative to find someone impersonating the man they work for and with. They even tried to detain and arrest him, but thankfully he and the crew made their way out. Right now Osteen is at best a figure that Christians can look up to and others can look at with just barely-concealed contempt. In all honesty he’s a comedic figure all on his own since to those that suffer, those that lose, and those that endure the continuing hardships in their lives that never seem to end, Osteen is offering little more than a chance to read his book and to keep people he barely knows in his thoughts and prayers.
Unless you’re a devout Christian or someone that just believes in the inherent goodness in someone then it’s kind of hard to ascribe to the belief that a man who has a luxury yacht, lives in a mansion, and has thousands upon thousands of people just waiting to hand over their money because of what he tells them is all that pious. It would be interesting to see what kind of hidden camera footage there might be on Osteen and many others that are considered to be leaders throughout the many religions of the world. Those that are somehow granted a lavish lifestyle that allows them to own churches that are larger than many grocery stores, have boats that are more expensive than most people’s houses, and spread a word that basically anyone can achieve this, are often likened to the snake oil salesmen of old, giving false hope in return for a fistful of dollars that those who don’t know any better are willing to part with. Hope is a great thing and very important to keep, but it’s way too easy to prey on.
But for one comedian that happens to look like one of the most popular preachers in history it’s a very lucrative deal.
