If you have been binging on Netflix like the rest of the world these days, you have probably already discovered the hit series Money Heist (or La Casa de Papel in Spanish). Originally aired on Antena 3 in Spain, the gripping show gained striking international success after being picked up by Netflix in December of 2017 and has become the most-watched non-English-language series with an Emmy for Best Drama Series in its pocket.
Álex Pina’s crime drama follows a group of robbers led by a mastermind, the Professor, attempting to pull off a perfectly-planned heist on the Royal Mint of Spain. Millions of people can’t get enough of the fascinating plot twists and characters, and 29-year-old artist Jose Manansala is one of them.
The Filipino freelance visual artist showed his love for the series by drawing 12 of his favorite Money Heist characters with just colored pencils. Each piece of fan art took him up to 18 hours to complete (well-spent time in quarantine) and it didn’t go unnoticed. A portrait of Lisbon went viral after actress Itziar Ituño, who plays the character, shared it on her Instagram.
“Money Heist is addictive. I got hooked by episode after episode of constant suspense. As a visual artist, I felt challenged to make a portrait of each character as they have different personalities and dispositions and yet still managed to keep an eye on their goal,” Manansala told Bored Panda.
