Why Cersei and Bronn Never Appear in the Same Scene on Game of Thrones

It’s a shame when a relationship can’t work out, but when it becomes something of a distraction since the two individuals are actually WORKING ON THE SAME SHOW, then one might think it would be a problem. Think really hard about this one. Have you ever noticed Bronn and Cersei in the same shot together? Ever seen them in the same vicinity where they had to stand side by side or at least across the same room? Nope, and you never will. Both Jerome Flynn (Bronn) and Lena Headey (Cersei) cannot stand one another. They were in a committed relationship some time ago and had a truly awful breakup. One might have surmised that would be the end of it, but lo and behold the same two people that cannot stand each other in real life made the casting list for Game of Thrones, and thus the battle lines had to be drawn again.

For the other actors the mere mention of being in the same room with the two actors was something of a running joke that was told whenever the two weren’t around. They actually had a stipulation written up in their contract that said they would never have to be onscreen with one another throughout the length of the show. How crazy is that? It’s bad enough that they can’t stand each other, but having to mess with the story and make it conform to their needs in this way seems a tad bit selfish as well as childish and petty. There have been complaints in the past that Lena and Jerome both have their own issues, but this is pretty low.

You know the saying, “when I was a child…”? These two don’t seem to have read that passage at any time in their lives since they can’t seem to put down childish things and just get along. Personally I think Bronn and Cersei in the same room would be an interesting meeting simply because of this relationship. So they can’t stand each other, big deal. There have been actors on the same set that have loathed one another and still they’ve found a way to make it work. On The Notebook Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams were having shouting matches on set and yet still managed to do romantic scenes that would have been nigh impossible for anyone else. But this is what actors do, they act like they enjoy one another’s company, or at least can stomach the sight of each other.

To put that kind of stipulation into a contract means that there is some genuine hate in that relationship however, which means in some ways there is still a feeling of passion buried beneath the black stuff that they don’t want to look beyond. It just strikes me as a detriment to the show despite being one that doesn’t really make much of a difference. Bronn and Jamie don’t get along at all times so it’s safe to assume, especially knowing what we know now, that Bronn and Cersei wouldn’t get along at all, and that the Mountain might actually pull his sword if Bronn ever came near.

Now that would be a good fight.
