If you’re not following eSports that’s OK but you might be missing the next wave of billions of dollars you could be invested in. Seriously, eSports is sneakily coming up on us and is hitting the mainstream more and more each day. Just yesterday it got that much closer to being approved to be in the Olympics. No, seriously. It was approved to be a legitimate sport in the Asia games which is literally the next best thing to the Olympics. I personally think it’s only a matter of time before eSports is considered a “real” sport. Speaking of which, celebrities are going toe-to-toe in a Street Fighter showdown for charity: four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal, Super Bowl champion Reggie Bush, rapper Lupe Fiasco, and pro wrestler Natalie Eva Marie. According to Mashable:
The ELeague Street Fighter V Invitational is hosting a Celebrity Showdown April 28 on TBS at 10 p.m. ET. Each of the four competitors chose a different charity to represent in the mini-tournament. The winner’s charity will receive the bulk of the prize pool that’s up for grabs. Shaq is supporting the Odessa Chambliss Quality of Life Fund, Bush is supporting the 619 Charitable Fund, Fiasco is supporting M.U.R.A.L. (Magnifying Urban Realities and Affecting Lives), and Marie is supporting the American Cancer Society.
Word has it that Fiasco is the odd-on favorite because he’s already competed with some of the best gamers in the world. I think Shaq’s hands are too big. Reggie Bush could surprise people and very little is known about Natalie Marie’s gaming skills. Time will tell.
