CSI Season 15 will be a little different than past seasons of the long-running CBS series, and by different, I mean shorter. CBS has announced that the episode order for CSI Season 15 has been trimmed from the show’s usual 22 episodes down to 18, making this the first time in CSI‘s history that it will be airing less than a full season’s worth of episodes (by network standards, a full season equates to 22, not 13 which is the status quo for many cable programs).
The CSI news was first reported by Michael Ausiello of TVLine, who was given some information on why exactly the episode order was cut. He was reportedly “told the decision was more about inventory than ratings. In addition to spin-off CSI: Cyber, which is slated to assume CSI‘s Sunday-at-10 perch later this season, CBS also has Vince Gilligan’s Battle Creek and a seventh season of The Mentalist waiting in the wings.”
Even though CSI‘s audience has dropped considerably since moving from Wednesdays at 10 p.m. to Sunday nights at 10 p.m., the series is till retaining its viewers in the key 18-49 demo, producing the same numbers that it had last year in its previous time slot. Therefore, fans of the drama should not worry about it being cancelled anytime in the near future.
In its long history on CBS, CSI, like NCIS, has been one of the network’s most successful series, even launching multiple spin-off series, such as CSI: Miami and the recently ended CSI: NY, which aired its final season in 2013. A new spin-off, CSI: Cyber, starring Patricia Arquette, will hit CBS in 2015.
