Castle 4.07 “Cops & Robbers” Review

Now, I have a question for you guys. What do you think was the main point of this episode? For me, it was to establish — for the audience and for Castle – just how much Detective Kate Beckett is completely and utterly in love with him. We all knew that she reciprocated his feelings, but they hadn’t been really clear about the intensity of those feelings, right? Well, I guess seeing the person you love in a life-threatening situation just about makes you put all your cards on the table. Even though she didn’t come right out and said those three little words, her actions spoke so much louder than anything she could have told him. Every single scene — and major kudos to Stana Katic for playing Kate Beckett beautifully in this episode — showed just how desperate she was to save him and how broken she would be if she failed to do so. I basically loved every scene with her, but my absolute favorite was when she threatens the leader, saying she will personally put a bullet through his skull if he kills Castle. That one moment was so powerful and meaningful and the strength with which Stana Katic delivered those lines was breathtaking.

Castle 4.07 “Cops & Robbers” ReviewBefore the episode aired, I remember telling a friend that if Beckett didn’t hug the hell out of Castle when he came out of that bank I would be royally pissed off. After the episode ended, however, I swear that I even thought about being disappointed that there was no hug, but the episode was just so good that I couldn’t find it in myself to be sad or angry about something so minor. In fact, I think we got so much more than a hug or a kiss, especially in two particular scenes: when Kate goes in as the paramedic — and I have to say Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic got the longing, loving look down to an art now — and when she goes in calling out for him after the bomb explodes. I wanted to hit something when Martha interrupted their moment. But even with that interruption, they managed to convey so much with just a look.

The highly anticipated wine scene at the loft ended up being pretty minor compared to the epicness of the rest of the episode. In fact, it felt very reminiscent to a scene from season 1 – from ‘Home is where the heart stops’, if I remember correctly — and it has probably opened a whole new slew of possibilities.

Alexis seems to feel better about Kate and, even though she started out as a little hostile, I think in the end she was really grateful to the detective for saving her family. Martha seems to just adore Kate and that entire scene just felt very relaxed, as something they do on a regular basis. I sure hope this paves the way for more loft scenes with Beckett.

All in all, last night we were given a fantastic hour of television and I wish there was a grade higher than A+ because ‘Cops & Robbers’truly deserves it.

Anyway, I have talked too much already. It’s your turn now. Feel free to hit the comments with your thoughts on ‘Cops & Robbers’.
