Catwoman is a character that many people like but many more believe has not been afforded what she is due quite yet. The many different representations of this classic villain/antihero have met with mixed reviews over the years, but in truth only a few women have ever done the role any justice. One of those was obviously Michelle Pfeiffer, who through no fault of her own was cast in a rather bad movie with very good actors and horrible dialogue.
While it was Keaton’s last attempt at the role of Catwoman’s object of desire, the dynamic would be regained in The Dark Knight Rises years later with Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway, who is no doubt the only woman as of late to really bring life to the character. It can be argued that Cameron Bicandova has performed the role of a young Catwoman, or Selina Kyle, beautifully, but she is still rather young to be considered for a standalone movie.
At this point there is really no need to find a new Catwoman, simply because Anne Hathaway brings the right spark to the role and the right attitude that encompasses Selina Kyle. Halle Berry might have looked rather exquisite in her own version of the Catwoman costume, but it was a poor attempt at reviving the role and an ill-received film that did nothing to bring any further interest among the fans. Michelle Pfeiffer, as mentioned above, was quite good at the role, but is getting up in years and, despite still being quite stunning, would be unable to take up the role once again.
Here are our tips on how to best remake Catwoman
5. Len Wiseman – Director
This film would need a director that can roll with intense action sequences and a story that’s fairly dark but has some redeeming qualities. Considering that Wiseman has worked on the Underworld and Die Hard franchises, it stands to reason that he could easily tackle a Catwoman remake.
4. Batman- Ben Affleck
It might seem like an attempt to upstage the main character, but in truth you can’t often have Catwoman without her main squeeze, no matter if they’re trying to ruin one another more often than not. The two have been seen to be allies on and off throughout their long history, which is why it would make sense to keep the Batman in any new attempt, at least as a cameo.
3. Stark- Vincent Cassel
Despite being known for his more serious and even arrogant roles in films like Black Swan and Ocean’s Twelve, Cassel has the right type of look and attitude that could land him this role. As Stark, he would be the kind of confident, dark figure that Selina might be drawn to, and a contact or confidante that she could use within a professional context.
2. Slam Bradley – John Slattery
Despite being established as Tony Stark’s father in the Marvel universe, Slattery would bring the type of old school feel to the film that could be useful and ultimately serve as a foil to Catwoman. Slam is a private detective that was once hired by the cops and the mob alike to find Catwoman. When he refused to give up her whereabouts or if he’d found anything he was beaten. Eventually however he would be the one giving the beatings when the mob found him.
1. Selina Kyle/Catwoman – Anne Hathaway
She has the right character, the right build, and above all, was the most recent Catwoman to appear on the big screen. While some critics may have spoken out against her inclusion they will have to eat their words at this point. Hathaway turned in an absolutely stunning performance that was somewhat of a surprise considering that she is not well known for action films. Like it or not, she is the perfect Catwoman for the modern age.
Conclusion
If the movie is going to be done then it needs to be done right. There needs to be a full, concentrated effort to make this film work, not some slipshod attempt at remaking a classic in a different image. Sometimes, just sometimes films come to life if directors choose to stay with the source material.
