The Reading and Leeds Festivals are two annual rock festivals that are held in Reading and Leeds, respectively, in England. The Reading Festival is the elder of the two and was initially started in 1961 though its roots can be traced back further than this. It’s held in Little John’s Farm in central Reading and is a massive venue offering a wide variety of things to do as well as acts to watch. The Leeds Festival is held in Bramham Park and started close to the same time as the Reading Festival. Both events have managed to pull in mass amounts of people as many of the acts that are featured in both are headliners and indie groups that are on their way to becoming well-known bands. There is also a stage for those that are selected to come and play in the hopes that they’ll be noticed and possibly get a shot at the big time.
Both festivals are typically packed as both the weather and the level of entertainment are typically expected to be favorable as the festivals tend to pull in some of the greatest artists, comedy acts, and other various performers that can be found. For the last several decades both festivals have been noted as two of the best throughout the world and in some cases two of the most attended. Historically-speaking the Reading Festival is one of the oldest live festivals that is still active and has gone through a great deal of change since its inception. It was actually started as a jazz festival and has since then evolved into what it is now. Performers come from both near and far to try to be a part of this act and if they’re lucky enough to be chosen it’s a great way to gain exposure or to at least put on a great show for people in the hopes that through word of mouth their name will become something that people want to hear more of.
Camping is available at this festival and day passes are allowed as well, since a lot of people don’t want to miss out on the entire weekend of fun and would rather stumble back to their trailer or tent rather than have to make it all the way back to a hotel or their home. You can just imagine what it must look like as the grounds become littered with people and refuse that tends to fall from people’s hands or be tossed. Festivals of this size often become a dumping ground in the name of fun but quite often it’s just the price of putting on a good show for people to attend. The experience seems like it would pay for itself, metaphorically-speaking, as this would be one weekend-long party you wouldn’t want to miss. The festivals this year are being headed up by none other than Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, and the long list of performers that follows should be something amazing to watch.
This is not the end this is just the beginning.
