The Big Bang Theory fans are used to seeing Melissa Rauch as only Bernadette. However, as she talked about with Stephen Colbert last night on The Late Show, her new role in the film The Bronze, which she co-wrote with her husband, is not anything like the character that she plays on the CBS sitcom. Rauch described the movie as a “passion project” to Colbert, and it truly was one for her, as she not only had to fight to get it made but also had to fight to star in it.
“When we first wrote the script and we started sending it out to producers, we had some interest,” the Big Bang Theory actress explained. “But there was the discussion of ‘We like the script and would want to do it, but we could get more money for it if we put an actress in it who has box office success history.'”
But there was one person who served as an inspiration to Rauch, a fellow actor and writer that made her believe that starring in the film was the right thing to do, and that was Sylvester Stallone, who famously wrote and starred in the Oscar-winning film Rocky. Anytime Rauch would question herself, she would just try to remember what Stallone did and stick to that same path, and it ended up working out. She was able to make the film and star in it, utilizing a small but sufficient budget.
“[Stallone] held onto Rocky, and so we kept on saying we are going to Rocky this and Sylvester Stallone it,” Rauch said.
She then had the opportunity to meet Stallone at a party and tell him how much he inspired her. However, as she explained to Colbert, she was more than a little nervous when she first approached the actor.
