The Best Uses of The Cure Songs in Movies

Some would claim The Cure is an odd band to listen to, and the sound does have something of an acquired taste. But truthfully a lot of their music is highly prized by films buffs, TV shows and fans around the world that will argue until they’re blue in the face about how great they are. This kind of dedication to any band is impressive, and in truth it says a lot for The Cure and how truly far they’ve come in their time. Their inclusion into so many movie and TV soundtracks speaks to their desirability and their adaptability as well. If a band is a one-trick pony they don’t normally go that far, unless they’re sound is that great. With The Cure however, their sound is definitely up for changing when it needs to.

So here are just a few films out of the many that have made good use of The Cure.

5. Apart – Underworld Awakening

It takes a special kind of music to really fit into a horror movie, and it can’t be anything less than the best. The Cure has that covered with their haunting sounds that fit the film without issue. The sleek, seductive sound of the band is just what is needed to hype up the look of the main character, and of course the rest of the film.

4. The Dredd Song – Judge Dredd

This might seem like an odd movie to find a song by The Cure on, but in truth it fits very well. The dystopian future that Judge Dredd exists in is kind of a messed up place, and the music needs to be equally haunting and in some ways discordant to match. This is why The Cure fits in so well here.

3. Boys Don’t Cry – The Wedding Singer

Really the only reason this is on the list is because Adam Sandler admits that this song came to be because he was listening to The Cure a lot when he was writing it up. That and the fact that it shows up on a number of searches if you happen to look for this film and The Cure in the same line. It’s an amusing but dark scene that inspires some form of sympathy as well as hilarity.

2. More than This – The X-Files

If you were thinking that the X-Files weren’t the right medium in which to showcase The Cure then you might not have been watching the show for long enough. The movies weren’t entirely up to snuff considering they had to pick a story line and go with it, but the soundtrack was spot on as far as who got selected.

1. Burn – The Crow

No other opening could have worked for this film. Think about this, a city on the brink, a couple murdered, a soul allowed to return to claim vengeance on those that killed him and his girlfriend. There’s no words for what a lot of us would do in this situation, and it sets up The Crow with an intensity that is easily delivered throughout the entire movie. While the next few renditions of this cult classic fell far short of the mark, it’s easy to see why since the first film set the bar so high. May the next version to top it be just as awesome.

So out of all the movies and TV shows that have featured The Cure, these are perhaps the best examples of their talents and their sound. It’s safe to say that their sound isn’t dead yet, and won’t be for some time to come.
