Since Logan has been shredding box office numbers since the weekend, people are wondering where that movie stands in the history of comic book movies. People are also saying that Hugh Jackman’s performance in the film ranks way up there in the history of Superhero movie performances. In fact website Indiewire ran a survey involving top TV and film critics to get their picks on who they thought lays claim to the best acting performance in a Superhero movie.
Answers ranged from Natalie Portman in Thor to Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns. Christopher Reeve got a shout out for Superman. Alfred Molina’s performance in Spider-Man 2 was also given a nod. But if you ask me the answer isn’t even close. Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight by far gave the best performance in any Superhero movie ever. In the Indiewire survey, only two people said Heath Ledger which was a little surprising to me.
I was also surprised that Jack Nicholson’s joker didn’t get more love. While it didn’t compare to Heath Ledger’s that doesn’t mean he wasn’t as good as Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns. In any event, it’s a fun game to play but in this case I don’t even think it’s a game. The answer is just so lopsided when you realize it that another game needs to be played.
