Anyone enamored of the Beatles should be getting pretty excited by now since come this July their classic Yellow Submarine will be back in theaters for a short run celebrating its 50th anniversary. The iconic movie was one of the greatest things the Beatles did if you talk to their fans, and it will be coming to select theaters throughout the US, Ireland, and the UK. Anyone lucky enough to get tickets should beat feet to the theater on opening day and feel fortunate that this treasure is being brought back for even a short time. It’s easy enough to find the movie for sale or download but honestly it’s not nearly the same as it would be on the big screen.
Some things just need to be experienced as they were back when they first came out, as the magic of the moment is something that doesn’t have any real power when it’s watched in the comfort of one’s home. There’s some strange quality that is conveyed in a theater, some element of being out of your comfort zone, that makes it a little more special. For those that are old enough to have loved the Beatles back in the day this should be considered a walk down nostalgia road in one of the best ways. People have loved this group for decades now and despite the fact that only two of them remain the legacy of the band is something that has managed to become a reference for a lot of musical acts ever since. They’re among the greats that have cemented their place in history and no longer have anything to prove. But obviously throughout the years they’ve still done enough to keep themselves busy, and part of it has to be the love for the life that is so important to keep alive.
Some people might remember Yellow Submarine and what it was about, but for those that are just now coming around to the Beatles it would be a great way to show them just what the movie was all about and why the Beatles are counted as one of history’s best acts ever. They’re not for everyone obviously, just as any band won’t be, but the one thing you can at least be guaranteed of is that eventually most people will at least find themselves singing or humming to one of the Beatles’ tunes without even thinking about it. Some of them get in your head and don’t go away all that easy, while others stick there and eventually seem to make you like them. This movie features a couple of those songs that some people would grouse about since it gets stuck and won’t go away, the notes becoming so firmly entrenched in a person’s mind that they find that trying to forget it only makes it stronger. One of them is easy to guess since it has to do with the title of the movie, Yellow Submarine.
Good luck getting that one out of your head. But really, enjoy the movie.
