Netflix’s Eric spotlighted several emerging and under-the-radar talents, from McKinley Belcher III to Ivan Morris Howe and Bamar Kane. The latter plays Yuusuf Egbe, a homeless graffiti artist living in a tunnel inhabited by New York City’s homeless population. When the tag on his works attracts the attention of a famous puppeteer’s son, Yuusuf becomes a prime suspect in an investigation into the disappearance of 9-year-old Edgar Anderson.
Starring alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Gaby Hoffmann in the psychological crime thriller, Bamar Kane has gained a wider exposure to push his career forward. The series created by Abi Morgan has boosted his visibility, showcasing his talent to industry executives and TV audiences worldwide. Kane acknowledges Eric’s impact on his burgeoning career. Upon the show’s release on May 30, 2024, he took to his social media pages to appreciate Morgan for the role, which he described as “a unique gift” in his career.
Bamar Kane Is A Senegalese Actor Based In France
The Yuusuf Egbe actor often calls himself a “Paris-based boy Dakar,” a description that recognizes his identity as a Senegalese living in France. Several sources describe him as a French actor. This isn’t wrong, especially as he’s lived in France for years. Born and raised in Dakar, Senegal, Bamar Kane belongs to the Wolof ethnic group in northwestern Senegal. As a young adult, he left Senegal for France, where he’s lived ever since.
Also a musician, Bamar Kane hails from a family of creatives. His sister Marame Kane is an artist: an alum of CESAN, a comics and illustrations institute of higher education in Paris. She studied drawing and children/young adult publishing at the art school. With her drawings and graphic novels, she seeks to draw attention to the plurality of identities in societies. The siblings are residents of Villa Albertine’s residency program committed to creating a network for arts between the United States and France.
He Was An Engineer Before He Fell In Love With Acting
Acting wasn’t the first career choice of the Senegalese actor. Before discovering his passion for performing arts, Bamar Kane was an engineer. For a while, he tried to juggle engineering with acting. This only fueled his love for the latter, leading to his decision to abandon his former career. In 2018, Kane quit his engineering job to focus on pursuing a career in acting. He’s been performing onscreen since at least 2016 when he starred in a short film titled Veille. After Kane fully committed to acting, he appeared in a 2019 episode of Hubert Besson’s romance dramedy Plus belle la vie.
That same year, he featured as an uncredited performer in Edouard Deluc’s telefilm Temps de chien! and David Perrault’s L’état sauvage. With the turn of the decade, Bamar Kane landed his first significant role, starring alongside Omar Sy in Mathieu Vadepied’s Tirailleurs. His performance in the war action drama about France’s colonial legacy placed his career on the map, paving the way for other roles in Le monde de demain, Le monde d’après, and Io Capitano. With Eric as his first English acting role, Kane is poised to gain the crossborder recognition that will catapult his career to a greater height.
Bamar Kane Is Also A Writer And Director
The Senegalese has engaged the movie industry in other capacities since 2019 when he began writing, directing, and producing short films. As a filmmaker, his resume includes projects like My Little Black Girl, Molly, Daddy’s Little Girl, Swipe Right, and Mirror Mirror. With several of his projects selected for film festivals in Europe and the United States, Bamar Kane is inspired to work towards becoming a noteworthy filmmaker. He graduated from the Nouvelles Ecritures school in 2022, where he studied series writing.
He’s also received training in cinema and screenplay writing from 1000 Visages— an organization founded by famous French director and screenwriter Houda Benyamina to help young people actualize their career aspirations in cinema. Bamar Kane is committed to honing his acting and filmmaking skills; he’s on a journey to secure a reputable position as a multi-faceted talent in the competitive industry. While Eric has set him up for more career opportunities, he has a long way to go if he must become an accomplished creative.
