Just a few weeks ago, The Coen Brothers made the announcement with Netflix about the upcoming “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.” The project is a Netflix original that is just getting underway by the famous brothers. Just the mention that Joel and Ethan are at the helm is enough to perk the ears of anyone that is familiar with their work. Here is what we know about their latest endeavor so far.
Plot and sequencing
We’re told that the new series will consist of a series of chapters. It is a Western anthology and will include six different tales that center around the American frontier. A segment will be designated for each of the stories that are told. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new Western frontier series so the project is coming on board just on time for fans of the history of the American west. What will the central theme of the stories be about? The only clue that we’re given currently, is found in the title. It seems to imply some type of conflict, but for now, they’re playing their cards close to the vest.
Cast and crew
The Coens will both write, direct and serve as executive producers of the Netflix Original presentation. In addition, they are joined by longtime Coen Brothers collaborator Robert Graf, along with Sue Naegle and Megan Ellison of Annapurna Television as producers. Although there are not a lot of details being shared about who will appear in the chapters, we’re told that Tim Blake Nelson will take the lead role of Buster Scruggs. We’re ecstatic to hear that the pair will lend their amazing voices to the narration of the anthology.
